Baltimore's National Aquarium is an excellent, educational experience suitable for all ages. There are seven floors of exhibits including a natural rainforest habitat, sharks, fish and other animals in their natural habitat. The dolphin exhibit is just sitting and watching the dolphins swim/be trained. It's not a choreographed show by trainers and is very low-key but still fun. The Australian exhibit can be viewed in about 15 minutes, according to staff. There are (currently) three different 4D movies that are 15 minutes in length and are a lot of fun to view as well as being educationally enriching. The food available is pricey, although smaller snacks like bags of chips and a big bag of popcorn are more affordable alternatives (available in both the Inner Harbor Viewing Room and the cafe) than the hot food for sale in the cafe. Bringing in your own food is prohibited, although personal water bottles are encouraged, and water fountains/water refill stations are available on multiple floors. Bathrooms are also plentiful and so are places to sit and rest. Of special interest is the man-made wetlands project in the water outside the aquarium, which helps clean the water in the harbor and provide natural habitat. The National Aquarium is right in the downtown area of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and there are lots of other nearby attractions (Torsk Submarine just outside) though you can easily spend up to three or four hours in the aquarium. Weekdays are quieter, though still busy. Tickets purchased ahead are recommended, and if you're a larger group, membership frequently saves money on both entrance fees and/or parking, cafes, films, and gift shop fees.
