Some of the depictions of this place are disingenuous, bordering on thinking that it's some sort of sleaze joint.. it's not. That would be the Mount Royal Tavern Is Cats Eye packed? Yes it is Is the music always good? Yes it is And the music starts early and ends late... One of the few places down there that still does that. I might note, and could be wrong - but I believe this establishment location is the oldest tavern in Baltimore / Fells point. Humorously, it is noted that many barks and brigantines were built in Fells Point that actually became the terror of the Caribbean several hundred years ago, when England and France were at it. Yep. We here in Baltimore? We are the original Pirates of the Caribbean 🤭 And yes, I do honestly believe that there are ghosts in Fells Point...

I first came here in 2008, while I was staying in Baltimore for a month for a work project. It quickly became my favorite place. Whenever I stop in Baltimore now, I come here to check out a band. Great place, great vibe great music, and great employees! You can tell that Morgan really cares about the place and the people that work there! A hidden gem for sure!

Clearly a cozy "locals" place. Decent atmosphere and good beer with a "gritty" feel to the place. Staff was fine but having an old woman walk through the bar shaking people down for "tips for the band" was not appreciated. Especially when she very aggressively and rudely lectured our group after we told her we didn't carry cash, that you "HAVE to bring cash to a place like this to tip the band, otherwise you shouldn't come in and listen to music."

#1 if the band isn't getting paid enough to play there, that's between the band and the bar. They shouldn't shake down the customers to supplement their income. #2 if the band is that good but the bar can't afford them, charge a cover. #3 I will NEVER "tip" a band. Really? Tip the band??? Ridiculous.

Definitely soured everyone's opinion of the place because of the extortion...

You know that feeling when you walk into a place you've been, you know where the floor creaks and where the door knob is for every door without looking? That feeling like you've been here a million times before? Though this historic bar has been around my entire life I've never really made a true acquaintance to it tonight or the band playing a crowd bustling, and a bartender doing a fabulous job at keeping everybody lubricated. Was a great night to actually sit down and have a conversation and become friends. This place has a wonderful aura vibe whatever the hell you want to call it. It lives up to what it says it is and it exceeds it. Do yourself a favor, set aside a night, treat yourself, come make yourself at home, come make yourself a new friend, and experience cat's eye, we're the only thing they overlook is the...

You will not find another place quite like this..not many places you can go and hear great live music all night long for five bucks - ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Never seen anyone get crazy here..very chill crowd..and everyone with common goal - have a few drinks, listen to the blues and have a good time. Love the artwork and decor - just unique and cozy. Two bars, one in front and one in back. Bartenders are awesome, and the owner, Tony is a doll. Place is right on the water in Fells Point, and they have a little outdoor cafe type space in the back with tables/chairs where you can smoke. The only issue I can really think of is drinks are a tad bit pricey - but honestly in this case I don't mind spending a few extra dollars. Never seen a bad band here..and music is always nice and loud :) Fantastic place, all...
