My parents came to visit me in the Baltimore suburban area to attend a concert in downtown Baltimore, and Grille 1224 happened to be close to the concert venue, so we ate there. My mother got the spinach pie, and my stepfather had a few bites. The next couple of days she became increasingly out of sorts, complaining of a stomach bug, until she returned home to Indiana to see her doctor. By this time also my stepfather was not feeling so great, so he also saw the doctor. The diagnosis came back: they both had E coli. My mother to a greater extent, my stepfather less so. I called to check on them and got the news.
When I called the restaurant, I asked for the manager, telling him what had happened. My words were greeted with surly suspicion. He could not say he was sorry to hear my 71-year-old parents were sick, nor that they were sick with E coli, nor that they got it from his restaurant. He admitted to nothing. He did not offer to comp our meals, or their meals, or my mother's meal, nor anything toward doctor bills nor medicines, neither of which were in the budget for elderly retirees. He never apologized for our trouble in any way, and all he said was that he would check with his supplier, and hung up. I was astounded that this is the level of customer service at this establishment. I would not go back there ever again even if their manager was paying me to eat there nor recommend it to anyone else. If you like your vegetables with a side of E coli, by all means try it. Otherwise steer clear of this...
Read moreI ordered the 1/4 Peruvian chicken with rice and beans with a side of fries. I was excited to eat from here as the first time was great. I usually don't complain about my food as I have worked in food service before but this time it was absolutely horrible. I peeled the skin back to eat the meat and picked a couple small pieces off and ate it then as I got further down I noticed that the chicken was a little pink I didn't think anything about it at first but then blood yes blood (I know what blood looks like remember I worked food service and medical services) came seeping out. I immediately stopped eating because this as this situation can cause food Borne illnesses and make you very sick. I took a picture and I immediately called the restaurant and spoke to a woman who was not empathetic at all and didn't seem to care. She took my number down and said she would have a manager call me back in 5-10 mins but he didn't call back for almost 40 mins. When he did call back he acted confrontsational and acted like I was lying. I told him I took a picture of it and he was like ok we'll send it to me and I will call you back and he still hasn't called, offered to fix it or refund my money. I haven't even thrown the food out yet either. The fries severely over cooked but I forced myself to eat them as it was the only option I had. I will never ever order...
Read moreI was quite disappointed. Since recently moving to the Maryland area, I have been seeking out the Peruvian Chicken tastes of Lima's, Sardis, and Nandos--which I love all of these! However, when I tried this establishment, excited that it was close to my job, I was quite disappointed. First of all, the attendant at the register, when I asked what type of lettuce was in the garden salad, she told me it was a mix. I specifically asked, "So, it is not romaine--it's mixed greens?". First, she responded, "romaine is okay, now". (Surprised that she would add that..)I responded, I know but I would prefer the mixed greens. She responded that it was mixed greens and not romaine. Low and behold, when I received my salad, it was ALL romaine lettuce. I approached her and told her that it was all romaine, even though she said it was not. She responded, "Well, do you want Caesar?" I gave her a moment...Oh, yes, that's romaine too", she recanted. Anyway, I just went with Plantains. Second, the chicken, what I went there for, was BLAND--unlike the others which have a very well seasoned and rich taste. The one enjoyable part of my meal were their French fries that were hot, fresh, and exceptional. I still...
