Sophia's place is an excellent Little slice of Poland in the middle of baltimore. Specialty seems to be baked goods with pastries tops on the list. They do have some needs and cheeses, and they have a fair amount of imported jams and jellies. Sophia is a survivor from the previous building when they when they renovated it. One of the few vendors that they let continue in existence. Vicky's diner is one of the other vendors that they LED continued. I've been to both more times than I can count. Aside from having really good things to eat, they work on remembering your name and trying to greet you personally every time you come in. This is the old style of salesmanship that I respond very very well too. Really makes you want to come back. And when the food is as good as what they have well then for going sure you're going to come back. Best part is it's not really that expensive, and Vicky's is down right on the cheap side as far as the prices. Servings of everything on large and the food is always been tasty. Three thumbs up...
Read moreI had several issues with this place when I visited today. First of all, no prices on the menu so you have to ask somebody that works there (why?!). I got 6 pierogi, and my sister got a combo plate with 4 pierogi, a sausage with sauerkraut, and golabki. Even though she got way more food than I did, we each paid around $10 for our food, which makes no sense. Finally, we were told that our food would be brought out to us at our table. We weren’t brought silverware with our food, so we asked for some, and the employee who brought us our food said very huffily “this isn’t a full service restaurant” as if we did something wrong by asking for silverware. He also charged us 75 cents for sour cream and was rude about it (again, a more thorough menu with prices would help!). The pierogi were just fine, although the cheese blintzes were SO GOOD (they were supposed to come with strawberries and didn’t which was disappointing, however). Two stars because the blintzes were amazing, otherwise it was just a weird and...
Read moreI hardly ever write reviews, and I especially never write one star reviews. But the service here was terrible. The employee, a middle-aged lady with short brown hair, was rude to a senior citizen who "took too long ordering". She berated the senior citizen for not meeting the $5 minimum for credit card use, and complained that the boss, Sophia, did not like being charged the extra fee. She then processed the transaction anyways, but tossed the older lady's card back at her rudely. When I tried to order at 4:55pm, she said they were closed and started flipping off the light switches (even though online it says that they are open until 6pm). She snapped at me when I pointed out that it was only 4:55pm. She then complained that the owner, Sophia, had left her to manage all by herself and that was why she was closing early. I was very disappointed by this experience, and feel this employee should either be let go of, or receive additional training in...
