So my foodie bestie and I took a trip down to Yard after seeing the reviews on social media. We were pretty excited to try this new Caribbean spot out.
Upon arriving the presumed owner greeted with a high five and we could sit where weād like. When he came to take our order I misread the menu and asked for corn soup. And after that⦠I wasnāt to sure if I rubbed him the wrong wayš„².
He did check on us periodically but definitely did not have much conversation with my friend and I like he did the other guest in the restaurant.lol
I ordered the street corn and big oxtail dinner. My friend had the remix pasta with shrimp. I will be honest. I donāt think as an app for a Jamaica. Restaurant street corn should be on the menu maybe festival or codfish fritter⦠just a suggestion.
My big oxtail meal came and it was ok. I was looking for more for brown stew oxtail. And thatās not what it was. I tried my friendās dish. I thought the remix pasta was decent. The shrimp was delicious š
Overall the vibes was cute. I appreciated the evident hard work put into decorating and the vibe. I love that the cooks are in FOH so you kind of get a little peep of the team working.
Iād come back again. Probably for the wings or to try their jerk chicken.
Wishing this establishment nothing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered from here today, first time ever. I wanted it to be good because I live close by and usually go to Tasheās Ankh or Konoko for good quality oxtail. I ordered for pickup right when they opened at 4pm, in hopes everything was hot and fresh.
This place, unfortunately, was an entire letdown. The oxtail had NO GRAVY, was extremely bland, the pieces all seemed like they werenāt cooked in the same batch based on toughness. There was no peas in the rice, maybe 5/6 total. The rice was only partially cooked, the core was still a bit hard. The only thing decent about the platter was the plantains which are not a challenge to cook tbh. My gf and I also got 3 pattys, which were āsmushedā and tasted like they were from yesterday or the day before. I suspect they could even be the ones you buy frozen at the store, which they are charging $7 per for these.
As I left with my order, the guy who rang me up said āyouāve never had oxtail like this beforeā. He was right. They charge $36 for oxtail, this is an insane price for oxtail. Places I frequent that are reputable are charging 22-24$ and itās very good and worth it. Maybe the rent in Fed is high, but these prices do not at all justify the quality of the food I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYard in Federal Hill has taken over the location of a former soul food spot, and itās clear theyāve brought a fresh new look and energy to the space. I placed an online order for jerk chicken with cabbage and rice and peas, and it was ready as soon as I arrivedāno waiting around, which I appreciated. The guy who handed me my food was so friendly and personable that Iām guessing heās either the owner or manager.
As for the food, the jerk chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked, with just the right amount of spice. The cabbage still had a nice crunch, which I prefer, and paired well with the bold flavors of the chicken. The rice and peas had good flavor, though I found myself picking out a few too many cloves for my liking, which was a small hiccup in an otherwise satisfying meal.
Overall, Yard is a solid new addition to the area, and Iād definitely return for the flavorful food and welcoming atmosphere. Just keep an eye out for...
