My partner and I have gone to Judy’s twice total. We wanted to try a local Bangor staple and really thought this was the place based on reviews. The first time was lackluster, but we thought maybe it was just an off day for Judy’s. We took two friends for our second visit a couple of days ago. This time made it more evident that our first experience was just how Judy’s operates. The restaurant itself looks and feels dirty, and has desperately needed a renovation or deep clean for at least a decade. The waitress seemed rude and impatient, and the environment is very unwelcoming unless you’re a regular. They say “no substitutions” on breakfast items, but really it’s a just cover for you to remove an item and have to pay $4+ to order a different full-sized side item. The food was the lowest par for diner food and only what I can describe as sad. I got mid-rare steak and over-easy eggs and was greeted with a grey, sad piece of overcooked meat with no sear and eggs with one crushed yolk and a bizarre film on top. The home fries that my friend and partner ordered were somehow overcooked and undercooked at the same time. Tough, overdone outside, and tough underdone middle. Everything else was barely passable. Again, I understand this is diner food and I’m not expecting more, but this stuff barely makes the cut. I don’t think they realize that there are other seasonings out there besides the salt and pepper on the tables. The waitress was inattentive and spent most of her time chatting with a customer at the bar. My friend spent half of her meal waiting for a water refill, then the rest of us slowly followed suit with our waters. We only got a refill 5 minutes before we left because it took one of the kitchen staff walking by to notice and offer refills, then he was the one who brought them opposed to the waitress, who was still chatting and (I can only hope) oblivious.

After experiencing what Judy’s has to offer, I can with confidence say that their only enthusiastic patronage (and the good reviews) comes from people clinging on to the scraps of memories and nostalgia in this place or those who seek out alcoholic beverages at 6AM. My best advice to give Judy’s a try is to start going there 20 years ago, otherwise you’re in for a cold welcome, food that a teenager could cook 10x better, and dust that has outlasted multiple presidential...

Whoah. First, biggest complaint is that a certain kitchen staff was working shoeless and tracking his wet footprints into the main dining area, as he would sometimes deliver food. In this, said person would look around, as if to make eye contact with anyone wondering why on earth he would be tracking bacteria, fungi, etc into and out of kitchen while whipping us up a marvelous meal. Such people would say they’re being free but when you’re serving the public, and at many other times/situations, it is not about you. Kitchen staff are to be stewards of basic health and hygiene when serving me food that I pay for that didnt come from a street vendor, and even then you should; just gross.

Leading me to the next stop, breakfast looked okay but the fried fish platter was frankly gross and I’m glad for the small portion size, as the fries were all that I ate. The shrimp were those tiny, tiny ones from a frozen bag likely from Wal Mart.

I asked for a water 5x; firstly when I sat down. I’m a super kind dude and usually leave a good review or no review. This place should have sub-4 stars and deter people considering this anything less than a hole in the wall bar serving a fried eggs and pancakes without complaint.

We also waited forever for this awful meal and service. Worst restaurant experience I’ve had in quite some time, but I was really thankful for the test of patience and not...

the food is typically great here, prices great, brought my family here to dine in when they visited last month. Ive loved this place, at one point this year I was getting breakfast to go about once or twice a week from here.

I just lowered my rating from 5 to 3 stars because last time I tried to get carryout, I was told someone would be with me soon, and the phone was set down on counter. I waited for 10 minutes hearing background noise and all but no one ever came. Called back and it was busy due to phone still being on counter, I waited, called back again, and someone told me they weren't doing carryout because too many people called orders in and no showed. I mentioned I've been getting carryout here for a year now and have always picked up my order, they recognize my voice on the phone and know what I'm going to ask for usually before I say it, thats how frequently Ive gotten it here. She tells me ah well, I could drive there to place a carryout order, but no, I cant place my order over the phone today. Not going back here I guess. What a weird way to run a...

So my reviews are generally associated with high end NYC restaurants and travel. Perhaps this one is a nod to the “real USA”. For the intrepid, there is Judy’s in Bangor Maine. I loved the character of this run down diner. Throughout my 8 am visit I think Judy’s served more stiff hard liquor drinks than eggs. Hair of the dog and a ticket to rehab, but a nice way to dine vicariously while the liver holds up. Aside of the local people watching and thinking that this place should be the base for the next character novel the breakfast hit the spot. Judy’s breakfast potatoes had great texture crispy on the outside and a soft inside. Then there was the simple English muffin. I am not sure what she does to it (I venture to guess it is grilled) but it is addictive and you do not find them cooked this way in NYC. Whether it be for people watching or a simple breakfast check out this place.

If you're looking to start the day with an adult beverage, Judy's is the place to be. It's a small bar/cafe that looks to be a favorite with the locals as a lot of people knew each other when they came in. I had the oatmeal with blueberries, and the oatmeal was fair. The blueberries were thawed from frozen but still juicy and flavorful. I got a side of home fries and they were tender inside, with a lovely crunch on the outside. My husband had the eggs, home fries and biscuit. The busboy was a sweetheart, clearing plates and letting you know where to pay the check. Overall we felt welcomed and well fed.

If you ever wonder where the deplorables eat breakfast in Bangor I have found it and I totally understand why - it is so tasty. Dive bar atmosphere-check; dilapidated building-check; heavy smokers and boozers who medically should be embalmed-check; the best hash browns around - yup. Very good diner coffee - yup; very reasonably priced - yup. It’s worth a visit just to see this Bangor institution.
