The food here is TERRIFIC but the servers need some additional help with training. Our server here was Matthew. He wanted to argue EVERYTHING we wanted to order. My husband ordered an unsweet tea with raspberry flavor. IT"S ON THE MENU. Matthew just wanted to stand and argue that he could not bring an unsweet raspberry tea to our table because once you put raspberry flavoring in the tea it is no longer unsweet. I said do you have unsweet tea? Yes he replied. Do you have raspberry flavor? Yes he replied. THIS IS GREAT NEWS! I said. My husband will have an unsweet raspberry tea. Nope. No can do. Can't do it. No way, no how. I cannot bring an unsweet raspberry tea to your table. So my husband settled for an unsweet tea minus the raspberry flavor. THEN I ordered a ribeye steak. I would like that cooked medium plus. No ma'am. I have been instructed the only way to ring in a steak is rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, & well done. The kitchen told me those are my only choices and I have to choose one of them. Hmmmm ..... now this IS in fact a steakhouse, yes? Yes ma'am he replied. I've never heard of a steakhouse not cooking a steak the way a customer wants. Can't you just ring in medium and then tell the kitchen I would like the steak I ordered, and am paying $25 for, to be cooked just a little longer but not as done as medium well? Nope. Can't do it. To my surprise my steak WAS IN FACT cooked to perfection just the way I wanted and was absolutely one of the best ribeye steaks I've ever had. Now we are still ordering. Me: What comes on the dinner salad? Matthew proceeded to tell me about the lettuce .... all about the lettuce .... the color, texture, variety, etc ..... I had to remind him I asked "what comes on the salad" like cheese, croutons, carrots, etc NOT about the lettuce. He said carrots and croutons. GREAT! Please add cheese. Ma'am I'll have to charge you $.59 extra for cheese. I said no problem. I understand. Then he goes on and on about the extra cheese and cost, etc. I don't care! I asked for cheese on my salad, I want cheese, I ordered cheese, I accepted the add'l cost of cheese with NO PROBLEM. Remember ... we are STILL ORDERING and all he wants to do is argue. Now for the meal. The food arrived and absolutely was delicious. About halfway through the meal, I realized we didn't get any bread with our meal so I asked thinking maybe he forgot. Nope! He said no bread is served at this steakhouse but MAYBE he could get the cooks to fix me some Texas toast with our meal .... for an add'l charge of course because it's not free! Again ......

It is also an excellent place to have lunch. The Akaushi beef in the half pound burger is phenomenal. Flavor unlike any burger you will ever have. Juicy, cooked over a flame to give it a slight char essence, but not hiding the taste of that remarkable beef. No “upscale options” like peanut butter, avocado, bacon jam or some “whatever” fusion. Push the lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion aside. The only condiments this burger needs is a little salt and pepper. Eat it with the bun though, so you won’t look like an animal holding the big beef patty in your hand, while you eat it.
My wife had a great Lunch sized chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and a side salad. Tender tasty beef, breaded just right and fried to an even golden brown. The potatoes and gravy were made from instant but tasty. Fresh greens in the small side salad, with a dressing of your choice.
Great service! Absolutely, no complaints...
Read moreThe food isn't bad but it's not the best. The service was friendly. The place is clean. Clean restrooms. Oddly enough you can tell alot about how a restaurant is managed by how clean their restrooms are. IMO. Back to the food. I had a chicken fried steak today. It was a little better than the prefrozen type but certainly not a top quality CFS. Mashed potatoes and gravy were good. Salad is OK. Most places we have ate at bring the salad out before the meal. Here if you want it before the meal you have to ask for it. My wife had a piece of fried catfish. She said it was good but again nothing to write home about. She ordered fries on the side. She got 12 fries. Not 12 big steak fries or anything. That would have been ok. Just 12 regular little french fries. I've had their steaks several times and was never impressed. Their burgers are good. Their chicken Alfredo is great. We would eat there again if we were just looking for the closest restaurant to our home. Out of the approximate 50 restaurants we have in B'ville I would rank Tumbleweeds at about an 18. It's better than alot of fast foods options we have in town but not...
