I am the type of user that only comments or writes a review when I have something positive or interesting to say about a product or restaurant. Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about Mi Ranchito. I found this restaurant on Google Maps while driving home from Pennsylvania. My girlfriend and I read the good reviews and decided to make this restaurant our choice for dinner. After our experience there, I wish we had it to do over again.
We got our menus quickly, and were impressed with the wide selection. I have eaten at my fair share of Mexican restaurants up and down the Eastern seaboard (honest moment - I've never been to Mexico to have real Mexican food, only to New Mexico) but I liked seeing some options that aren't frequently on the menu at your generic Mexican restaurant. My girlfriend ordered the beef chimichangas and I ordered the combo fajitas. We were also brought an order of chips and salsa as an appetizer. My girlfriend and I both agreed - the salsa was inedible. It had no flavor, no consistency, no separation of textures - tomato juice tossed with taco seasoning in a bowl.
Then our entrees arrived - a small portion of chicken, beef, onions, and peppers for me with a large plate of condiments and three tortillas, and two enormous chimichangas soaking in more of the tomato juice salsa for my girlfriend. My fajitas were passable (although I barely managed to stretch the meat to three tortillas), but my girlfriend only managed two bites of her entree. I tried a bite for myself - the meat filling tasted like the leftovers from a Hamburger Helper mistake and had the texture of cornmeal, while the salsa polluted what little flavor and passable texture was left. My girlfriend and I were both disgusted at this point, and quickly paid the bill and left.
The number of positive reviews of this restaurant really makes me wonder - did we just pick the wrong night to come by? Did we pick the two worst possible entrees? We are really not difficult to please, and I don't take any pleasure in writing a negative review. However, I feel that there needs to be a warning to others passing through the area that are looking for a quick dinner. I took the reviews on tripadvisor and Google Maps into consideration, and made the decision - if only I'd seen a review like the one I've written, I wouldn't have wasted my time, money and appetite on...
Read morestarted eating here about a year ago. I told the owner that she had some of the best food I ever had. The service is always slow, but I didn't mind because the food was excellent. I must have eaten here at least 30 times over this year if not more. I've told everybody about this place we even advertise her restaurant as one of the best places to visit while our visitors stay with us. The last two times I went there the chicken quesadillas had almost no chicken, but a lot of cheese, way to much cheese. If I wanted a cheese quesadilla I would order one. The guacamole was black obviously not fresh. This is not the type of food that I have come to know from this place. The only thing the owner has to tell me is keep your money don't come back. Great way to run a business Don't fix your problem throw your customers out thats supported your restaurant for over a year now. You used to have the best, Your new cook needs to get some training from your old cook. Today the owner was the only one working, there were no waitresses, waiters, or even a bartenderand, and after speaking with her about my food I understand why she has no help, but According to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), any employee who earns at least $30 per month regularly in tips is considered a tipped employee. Tipped employees are eligible to receive a cash wage that is lower than the federal minimum wage. Managers and restaurant owners aren't eligible to receive tips. She's accepted tips for me in the past! Maybe I should call the department of Labor on this restaurant? Thid place has gone downhill! There are much better places in Berkeley Springs to visit. I will no longer be promoting her restaurant and we will highly recommend they go somewhere...
Read moreI will be as honest as I can be about this place. For starters my husband is Hispanic and he grew up with AUTHENTIC real Mexican food. Considering we wanted to try authentic Mexican food without us cooking forever in the kitchen, we decided to go here after a long day. We have been trying places around us and we had not yet been to this restaurant. When we get there it was hard to find a place to park. We walk in the place and it looked nice it has some pretty cool decor. Once we were seated my husband took forever trying to decide what to pick on the menu because he said everything just sounded and looked unappetizing! We decided to go with the quesadilla as the appetizer, and when it came out he did not eat any of it. This was not what a real Mexican quesadilla was and when I tried it there was barely any chicken and mostly gooey cheese. When we finally got our food it was just nasty. That's the nicest way I could put it! - My husband ordered Arroz Con Pollo, but When he got the dish there was NO rice and it was basically like a WATERED down chicken fajitas plate. My enchiladas were cold and not covered in sauce properly because the sauce was on the plate from how watery it was. There was no flavor at all in my dish and my husband couldn't even force himself to eat his dish. We decided we couldn't force ourselves to eat this stuff so we asked for the check and we left to another Mexican restaurant that we like very much and they actually serve AUTHENTIC food. Everything at this place was overpriced for the quality and we paid way to much. So much for trying something new huh? I love going out to eat and trying new places but we will never return...
