The hotel is 5 minutes walking distance from the bath houses and there is a nice spa on the 4th floor with whirlpool so you can do one or the other. The receptionists were great, the food at the restaurant mediocre, the wifi was strong and the room was clean. The major problem came after I got home and checked my bank statement, via my app. They charged my card for 2 rooms and breakfast. I called back and the receptionist looked up everything, and wanted to credit my card but the transaction required a manager so she left a note for them to do it and call me back. The next morning Tina called, she started off pleasant but couldn't find the charges. She told me to read to her the transaction listed on my bank statement, which I did. Then she found the issue but wanted to be sure so she said she would do more research call me back. Tina called and said "you are correct" we charged 2 rooms and a breakfast to your card but if she reverse the charges, they wouldn't have payment for the other room. She then went on to give me the name and credit card info for the other guest and to get authorization from me to charge their card. I told Tina that I'm not responsible for chasing their money and I'm not authorizing charges on another person's card, that room has nothing to do with me or my card and she needs to refund those charges. She REFUSED to do that because they wouldn't have payment. She said this about 10 times, finally I said you need to call that person and talk to them but I want my money back. Tina hung up on me. When I called back, immediately, she was on the phone. I told the receptionist to have Tina call me asap or I can drive down there. Tina called me back sweet as pie, she did not apologize, she said she spoke with the other guest and got permission to charge their card so she will process my refund. She said "I always get to the bottom of things and figure them out" but she didn't. She wasn't able to tell me how my card was charged for another guest's bill, she didn't call the other guest until I told her, even though she had ALL the info, including their credit card and check in receipt and she refused to return my money. I'm going to make a big deal of this because it's wrong but also dangerous. This hotel can charge any guesc's credit card for any room they want and refused to refund it because they don't want to? Not on my watch. I appreciate their response and this isn't my first time staying in a hotel with these circumstances. My issue is they made a mistake and REFUSED to correct it. I had to argue with her and tell her to call the person associated with that room and she hung up on me. This is poor customer service and extortion. The GM did not apologize for the poor customer or the attempt to make me financially liable for 2 rooms, AFTER, acknowledging...
Read moreI'm going to make this a 2 part review 1 for the Inn 1 for the restaurant. The Inn was nice, clean and comfortable. Seemed slightly dated but again was clean and comfortable the staff was nice and it was quiet. I also liked that the Inn was centrally located and there is a lot to do within a few miles in any direction. I would give the Inn 5 stars all day long The restaurant. To be very fair we did not have dinner there so please see other reviews for dinner food quality and service. Our first morning there we went to the restaurant for breakfast. There is a sign that says please wait to be seated. We waited about 10 min or so with nobody even looking for any guest. I led my wife to the dining room with about 5 to 6 small tables of people( not even 1/3 capacity). My wife did not want to sit and wait for a server so we went back out to wait. About another several min of nothing. I walked back to the open kitchen door and when a server appeared and attempted to walk away while eating. I asked her nicely if anyone was available or working out front? She got visibly upset and I walked back to my wife thinking we would be seated. The server came out as we walked towards the sign she slammed some papers and stomped off. We then decided we wasted enough time and went elsewhere. ( please see my review for the other local eateries). The next day we seen that they do a breakfast buffet. So we chocked up the first experience as someone having a bad day. The staff for the buffet was very nice. But the food was "eh" to be honest I've had better free breakfasts at cheap hotels. Nothing from scratch. Nothing notable. I figured " The Inn at Berkeley Springs" would have a notable breakfast buffet. . I guess the lesson learned is don't do breakfast here. There are several great places nearby. Also when we left the restaurant I asked for a manger to tell them of our experience the day before( not to complain but more to make them aware). When I asked the hostess for a manager I was promptly asked " what for? " very defensively. And when someone came out and claimed to be a manager we were clearly given the brush off. . Again I can't speak for dinners or dinner service as we only had/ attempted to have...
Read moreWe recently stayed at the Country Inn in Berkeley Springs, WV, and booked the Romantic Getaway package. While the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, a few aspects of the experience fell short of expectations.
Upon arrival, we found that the included bottle of spumante was actually a flavored "Sparkletini" malt liquor beverage. The raspberry flavor seemed like an odd choice, and the bottle was flat. The front desk kindly exchanged it for a non-flavored option, but it still wasn’t the sparkling wine we were expecting from the package description.
We also upgraded to a suite, but the living room area was quite sparse, consisting of just two chairs and a TV. It wasn’t the kind of space you’d want to lounge in for long periods.
The package included a couples massage and whirlpool, but there was little guidance from the spa on what to expect. We weren’t sure if bathing suits were needed for the whirlpool, and the waiting area before our spa experience was uncomfortable, more like a doctor's office waiting room with no water or refreshments offered. The whirlpool itself was nice, and the staff remained lovely throughout. Afterward, we moved to a different waiting room for our massages, which was much cozier, featuring low lighting and a fireplace. The massages were enjoyable, and the staff was kind.
For dinner, we visited the Country Inn restaurant. Though we didn’t have reservations, the staff managed to find us a spot, which we appreciated. However, the dining atmosphere was strange. We were seated in a large ballroom that felt more like a wedding reception than a cozy dining experience. The live music was nice, but the vibe didn’t quite match what we were expecting. The food was good, but the wine tasted off.
Overall, the Inn itself is charming with a beautiful lobby and outdoor space, but a few small tweaks could elevate the experience significantly. While our stay wasn’t terrible, I wouldn't book this...
