Always delicious ramen! We actually find things to do near or in Baton Rouge sometimes, just so we can dine here for dinner, yes...we drive from Slidell for it. We always get the Kumamoto Black Tonkotsu, our daughter loves the kid ramen, and our boy who doesn't like soups in general enjoys the fried shrimp or chicken appetizers for a meal. So a little something for everyone! Always friendly staff, and awesome service.
Update, tried new location:
Food is still exceptional. We still drove an hour to eat here. The new location is pretty awesome. The only thing we found disappointing was the service. We ate at the old location quite a few times, service always great. So hoping it was just an inexperienced waitress this time, or she just had no situational awareness. We dined here on Friday (03.14.25), arrived over two hours before closing time to note. We tried their pork belly bao buns, delicious. I was happy because they now have iced black tea, wasn't quite clear if they stopped with green tea or just happen to be out of it (that was a disappointment for my husband, but not a deterrent). It was odd that our waitress made it a point she will not submit our main order until we receive our appetizer, but who knows, they might have a rhythm going on in the kitchen. Took a while for us to receive our main dishes after we finished our appetizer, but they were also busy. What ruined the experience for us was the waitress, who seemed to rush us out. There were tables still available, and there was still at least 1hr 15 min till they closed. We literally just got our main dishes and she came out with the check, didn't even ask us if we needed anything else. Then once my husband and I finished our ramen, she came to ask if we needed any boxes as she glanced over at our little ones who were still working on their food. We weren't quite sure at that point, because they were not slowing down with eating yet. So we told her so. She came back not even five minutes later to ask again, our assessment was the same, our 4 and 8 year old still eating. So she stated she will just bring us two boxes in case we need it. Now we didn't feel like we were overextending our stay, and we too worked in the restaurant industry back in the day, so we are in tune with these things. We work really hard during the week, so after driving an hour to eat at this nice place, it was a disappointment to be rushed out, when the kids were still eating. It came to a point when they stopped eating, we packed up their leftovers, and literally as we were getting up, the waitress came and started to bus our table, and even was about to grab one of the kid's drinks to trash, while I was wrestling myself out of my seat (I'm preggers). So yeah, this kinda ruined our experience there that evening. Hoping it was just the waitress, not a new culture of the new location, hence why I still left 5 stars. We will be back, so keeping fingers crossed we will have a different experience with the...
Read moreI ate here with my family for the first time about 2 weeks ago and we were delighted with everything. It was also the first time we've eaten at a restaurant in 9 months. First and foremost, there is plenty of available outdoor seating and lots of space between customers indoors (we remained outside where you can order via a window, which was nice). So if you're like us and are super-careful about going out during the pandemic, know that Boru, and all of Electric Depot, is doing a great job of keeping you safe.
The service was amazing and the food literally looks better on the table than even their gorgeous pictures! I have a number of pictures included that I took myself and added descriptions to, but many of my friends asked if I got them off the website. THAT'S how well presented their meals are.
My wife got the Classic Hakata Tonkatsu while I got the Rouge Red Tonkatsu. They were both delicious, but as pepper lovers we both agreed the Rouge Red Tonkatsu was tastier overall, and not just because it was spicy; it seemed to have a deeper, richer flavor. My only issue is it wasn't spicy to my palate nor my wife's (She's not into spicy, so for her to say it wasn't very spicy means it really wasn't), but I expected that since Baton Rouge diners often consider a pinch of black pepper to be "hot and spicy". I can always (hopefully) order it "extra-spicy" next time, and my usual issue is getting restaurants to understand just how spicy I want it to be. They're understandably worried about making something too hot, but in my case unless it blisters my face it's not too hot! Still, I don't want to lose the point that the Rouge Red Tonkatsu was absolutely amazing!
Now, that's not to say the Classic Hakata wasn't good, in fact it was sublime! The pork in the bowl was creamy-tender and perfect for the meal while the noodles had a perfect texture with a bit more firmness than most, which is a very, very good thing. Perfect noodles is how I'd describe them.
Working backwards, we started with the Shoyu Goma Kyuri, a sliced cucumber appetizer topped with a spicy sesame oil dressing and katsuobushi. I'm not a big cucumber fan, but I could live on cucumber if it were served this way!
Our only regret? That we didn't have the room in our stomachs to try the rest of the currently limited menu! If you're in Baton Rouge and looking for some good ramen, you'll do no better than Boru. It's the kind of slow-cooked-broth ramen I could literally eat every single day. Try it, you won't be...
Read moreMy first visit to the Electric Company food and drink cluster, not bad. A young friend wanted to get into some legit Ramen after discovering the prepackaged sodium bomb home version. I'm not sure why, but I forgot how menus work. Maybe I was sleepy. I wound up having a pretty standard Japanese fried chicken entrée which was more than okay. My wife had an authentic soju which made her very happy. Also she was delighted by a house hot sauce which is clearing a VERY high bar of her tastes. She did have to get three servings to reach her intended saturation, but this is an exceptional scenario. Our tablemates had Ramen and seemed satisfied with their choices. At an early dinner service on a Friday, the house did not feel crowded. The ambiance is a particular Zen of mid century American industrial construction. My partner spotted a couple of the owner- operators of Ichiban on the floor so we presume this is another of their establishments. The tenor is equivalent if slightly, appropriately more casual. Service was fine. I honestly don't remember the pricing, but that probably means it wasn't shockingly high nor shockingly low. A pleasant enough experience (once we found the venue and it's parking, no thanks to Google Maps who insisted on lying to me as to the last turn). Ib am looking forward to another visit to get into the...
