Disney thinks of everything when it comes to their guests’ experiences…take dining at Epcot for example…You can choose between 11 different countries, and authentic, chef-driven food in all of them. Even the staff in these areas are imported directly from those countries. So when the nice English bloke was our waiter at Rose & Crown pub (in the United Kingdom area of Epcot), coupled with the authentic food with excellent vegetarian options, it only enhanced our dinner experience.
As I said, the vegetarian (vegan in fact) options are outstanding. The classic dish at an English pub is fish and chips. They’ve got a vegan version of that. Feeling more adventurous and have never had Bangers and Mash (because bangers are sausage), well get ready to get it on with the vegan bangers and mash!
That’s what I did and this was no run of the mill veggie sausage from the frozen section…take a look at my picture…it looked beyond authentic and the taste was awesome! They even served it up with a vegetarian gravy which was super tasty. This dish really filled me up.
Our kid had the vegan fish and chips. (We made him try a chip with malt vinegar on it and although his 10 year old sensibility didn’t quite allow him to appreciate that, me and his mother sure enjoyed the face he made while eating it. He love the Gardein fish it was made with. This is the same thing you can get in the frozen section of any Target and most supermarkets, however they actually deep fried them which made them much crunchier and more authentic than what we typically do at home (baking them.) He loved it.
We also had a side of mushy peas which was delicious, and a side of roasted carrots which typically come with another dish, and which we also enjoyed
It was great that they could do the vegan options as part of the kids meals as sometimes restaurants will not allow that kind of substitution when ordering from the kids menu.
Oh and of course there is the English beer…you can’t have an authentic British pub experience without a pint…I had a cream ale which was all head when they brought it to me…it settled down quickly and though not served warm-warm-is like in the UK, it still was the perfect compliment to this meal.
I’ll be craving a future experience at Rose & Crown Pub and praying they...
Read moreMy wife and I spent a part of our honeymoon at Disney World and we had visited Rose and Crown several times during our stay, however this is about our last night there.
We went to Rose & Crown for dinner and it was absolutely fantastic. Our server Ellie, was one of the absolute best servers my wife and I have ever had and we thought that even before the food hit our table. We originally were sat outside next to a broken fan and Ellie had no issue accommodating us with an inside table. (The humidity over the course of a day does a number to my wife.) Thankfully, we were able to retain Ellie as our server.
Moving forward with the night and experience, Ellie was great for conversation and kept our beers full. Then, the pianist Neal who normally plays Casey’s Corner, came out and started off with a beautiful rendition of “perfect” but Ed Sheeran. Coincidentally this was my wife and I’s first dance song so cue the water works we told Ellie this as she came by so we could give our regards to Neal for also contributing unknowingly to our amazing night thus far.
This is where that Disney magic really hit. Ellie, now knowing it was our honeymoon (we forgot our pins and it was our last night at the parks so we weren’t trying to make a big deal of it) sprung into action and disappeared, only to come back a while later with a card signed by the rose and crown staff and an invitation to return later that night for the fireworks. After the wife and I finished tearing up at the generosity we thanked Ellie and told her that we’d try to make it to the fireworks. We unfortunately weren’t able to attend the fireworks. Not that we didn’t want to but after two weeks honeymooning we were wiped and had an early flight the next day.
All in all, if you’ve read this far. The food was amazing. The beers are great. And if you can get Ellie as a server, you’re going to be well taken care of during your time at Rose & Crown. We wanted to leave a good review and hopefully Ellie sees this because the Disney app doesn’t really let you call out a cast member in detail and we wanted her to know we appreciate everything she did for us that day and that she capped off an absolutely amazing...
Read moreCovid has destroyed this place. It has always been one of my favorites until now. It would be a good idea to wait until Disney's International hiring program is back on line. All, I mean "every last bit" of the English charm is gone. To give you a feel for the new vibe, it was 95 degrees, we had done the Disney day and I was anxious to sit down in a dim, quiet, cool spot with a cold beer and the hostess offered us a table outside. I don't mind paying Disney's prices but not for yet another slice of hot and sweaty. So, I requested a table indoors. The hostess, Lucy, gave a disgruntled huff and said "stand over there and wait for an available table." Where were we to stand, you ask? In the sun against a brick wall. Nice! After three individual couples were escorted indoors, I went to the podium to see why we hadn't been seated. Everyone there thought that I had been, in fact, no one could find the ticket their system generates to seat a guest. Eventually, someone did find it, discarded in the corner of the desk. So, Lucy apparently figured that we could wait until Hell froze over before we would be seated at an inside table. Suffice it to say, wait until the actual British staff returns to this...
