Returning to the Yorkshire County Fish Shop after over 15 years was bittersweet. Once a highlight of my Epcot visits, it seems the magic has faded somewhat over the years. The food itself—fish and chips—remains a staple, but the overall experience has changed, and not for the better.
First, let's talk about the seating, or rather, the lack of it. Despite being an hour out from the nightly fireworks, finding a place to sit was impossible. As someone who is now handicapped, the struggle was real. The lack of accessible seating was frustrating, especially as others had claimed chairs to save spots for relatives who hadn’t even arrived yet. With no other options, I ended up eating my fish standing up, using what I thought was a makeshift table, only to be told by a maintenance worker that I was actually using a trash receptacle. The whole situation was not just disappointing but a bit disheartening as well.
The fish itself was fine, but it lacked the charm and freshness I remembered. The quality seems to have slipped, and the employees, while efficient, seemed more like they were processing orders in a factory than selling an experience, which is a stark contrast to the Disney I remember from the 80s. The building itself is starting to show its age, with signs of rot visible on the exterior fascia.
Overall, my recent visit left me disappointed. It's clear that Disney's attention to detail has slipped, at least in this corner of Epcot. I have an annual pass and plan to return later this year, hoping for a better experience, but for now, it seems like the magic of the Yorkshire County Fish Shop might be a thing of the past. I hope Disney can find a way to bring back the care and experience that made places like...
Read moreA good place for a snack, drink, and a break. This shop is located in EPCOT, on the west side of the lake in the England pavilion. It is right next to the Rose and Crown Restaurant but does not offer a dining-in experience. It is along the walkway on the water-side of the path. You have your choice of ordering at one window and picking up at the adjacent window or, alternately, you can remote order using the MyDisney Experience App. It was a long line so we chose the second option. It worked remarkably well and our food was ready within minutes before the people in line had even moved forward. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They serve, as their sign says, fish and chips and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). We ordered drinks for about $4/drink. The fish and chips cost about $12. Seating is first-come, first-served located just to the south (toward the bridge and the France pavilion). They are metal tables and metal chairs with shade for some of the tables provided by umbrellas over the tables. Overall, it was a great place to stop and get a cool drink and relax by...
Read moreI'm not much of a fish guy - I usually go for the landlubber fare, but the fish here is very good. Actually, it's very similar to what you'd get inside in the Rose and Crown - it's a little thinner, but then again, it's also cheaper. The chips are pretty much straight up thick cut fries, but they're tasty and crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Once you've got your food, there's a nice patio area just up the ramp next to the serving window for you to sit. The tables up there aren't bad, but it'd be nice, especially in the evening when the sun's at an angle, if there was some way to angle the umbrellas, but that's a pretty minor thing. There's also a smaller area down a few steps on the lake that's nice and usually pretty quiet as most folks don't notice it. The people that work here are fast and friendly as well.
So, if you're looking for a pretty good and filling lunch or counter-service dinner, this is certainly a...
