Giovanni's Salumeria — Restaurant in Bayonne

I’ve driven past this establishment for a couple of years. Assuming and standard. However, I finally decided to visit after seeing it on a random social media video.

Let me tell you what. This is your classic Italian American spot. The type of place where you walk in and the entire staff acknowledges you: good afternoon/how ya doin’. With the utmost respect and service.

I ordered a chicken parm sandwich w/ vodka sauce. Visually, you’re handed a HYUGE vessel of flavor wrapped in foil. So for $13 you’re set in terms of value.

But the most important thing is the taste. When I say 10 of 10, I mean it. The bread itself was crispy on the outside and the inside soft and porous serving as a perfect sponge in absorbing the sauce, sauce that was made by the heavens themselves. You’re also provided a delicious helping of their homemade mozz. Rich and delicious in the most subtle way. Finally the chicken cutlet is the way I like mine. Well breaded. Good fry to absorb the sauce. And let me tell you, I am team “ya gotta have some meat on your bone”. I hate when places take their cutlets to pound town . No offense I don’t want my chicken as thin as a model on yayo.

I have been going to Giovanni's for about 6 years and his food is always fantastic, whether hot food or cold subs, dessert or drinks. Not long ago, Giovanni's tried the pizza thing and it was a blast! It was so good, it was better than many pizza joints in Bayonne. Giovannis is always courteous, a pleasure to deal with. He loves kids, people in general and always makes it known he appreciates everyone who does business in his establishment. His mozzarella is the best I have ever had, there is nothing else that compares! My goto's are the #4 as a whole with an extra chicken cutlet added. This is the sandwich that started it all! His shrimp parm, chicken parm, stuffed peppers, sausage peppers & onions, and many other hot food dishes are excellent. He has free delivery during the day for Bayonne customers and always does right by the customer. I love this place! If I could afford to eat out everyday, this is where I would go! I've lived in Bayonne for nearly 11 years now and I just discovered this place... man have I been missing out. This place is as amazing as everyone says - but don't just read about.. you've got to experience it.

You walk into this wonderful old school shop. Not only are there sandwiches, but the hot food is excellent. I took my time looking around; the smell of the place and and the nods of the people waiting in line confirmed that I was in a great spot.

I finally decided to get a Shrimp Parm hero, some crabcakes, an order of their tiramisu and some cooked octopus. The Shrimp Parm was perfectly seasoned, properly done and also monstrous. I started eating it and before I knew it - it was gone! The crabcakes were soo nice that somehow 2 of them were eaten before I got home. The octopus is yummy and the tiramisu will be wonderful dessert later.
