El Rey pupusas tacos y mas — Restaurant in Baytown

The food at this place is wonderful! The pupusas are authentic and always made fresh. They are hot and delicious. My main issue is that they are never open during the times posted on their door or on Google. Literally 50% of the times that I go there or call they are not open or closing early! I guess if you own your own restaurant that you can close whenever you want? I am not always sure that the owner know that his employees close early though. Went there today 7:26pm. It was posted that the close at 8pm. The lady told me they were already closed but she forgot to lock the door and that I couldn't even place a to go order. I’ve given this place two chances—once, a month ago and again recently—and unfortunately, both visits were disappointing.

The food was just okay; definitely not something to rave about. The cheese pupusa lacked flavor and was overcooked, almost burnt. Service was very slow on both visits, with a 35–40 minute wait between ordering and receiving the food.

There also seemed to be a language barrier, which made communication with the staff difficult. On top of that, they charged extra for chips and dip without mentioning it upfront, which felt misleading.

They charge tip on 5 or more. We were only 4 adults and a baby of 4 years of age who didn't ever ask for anything and kept to herself. They served us last even though we arrived before their rush hour. They didn't come to check if we needed anything throughout the meal and although we understand they were busy. If they are gonna include the tip they should at least make sure we are doing okay. Which many times we weren't. I had to go up to the register to tell the waitress I needed a to go order. We arrived at 11:20am and by the time I got my order it was 1:15pm. They need to either hire more staff or just have more reliable and...
