I recently dined at the Break Water Restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the restaurant had potential, there were several notable issues that hindered my overall enjoyment.
Firstly, there were mistakes made on our order. It's disheartening when a restaurant fails to accurately fulfill a customer's request, as it reflects a lack of attention to detail. These errors not only disrupted the flow of the meal but also left us feeling unsatisfied.
Moreover, the quality of the food was just average. It lacked the wow factor that I had hoped for, leaving me underwhelmed. The flavors were decent, but they lacked the creativity and finesse that elevate a dining experience from ordinary to exceptional.
Although these aspects overshadowed my visit, I must acknowledge that the service staff were attentive and responsive to our concerns. They attempted to rectify the errors promptly, which is commendable. However, these efforts were not enough to salvage the overall experience.
While it's possible that my visit was an outlier, it's crucial for any establishment to consistently deliver high-quality experiences. With this in mind, I believe there is room for improvement at the Break Water Restaurant. Attention to detail in both order accuracy and culinary execution would greatly enhance the overall dining experience.
I hope that the management takes these points constructively, as they have the potential to turn this "okay" restaurant into something truly remarkable. Until then, I may hesitate to revisit or recommend the Break Water Restaurant to others seeking a memorable dining experience.

Read moreThis was my first visit to Beaufort, South Carolina, much less my first meal at the Breakwater Restaurant & Bar. I had made a reservation, and when I got there I was seated immediately. I waited a little longer than I would’ve liked before being greeted by the waitress though… maybe 3 to 5 minutes. She noted the wait and was very personable and helpful going forward. I had looked at the menu online before dinner, and was still a little up in the air about what I’d order. After asking the waitress a couple details, I ended up with a quarter pound of southern fried shrimp, a crabcake, and a side order of green beans. I make a very good Manhattan cocktail at home. The closest drink they have is called Smoked Man of the Century. It was better than my own. Something to savor. The fried shrimp came next. I believe they were the best I’ve ever had, big, good texture, cracker breading, and served with a cocktail sauce with a little kick to it. The crabcake was perfection. It was lump blue crab, seared to a perfect crust with tan edges. It’s comes over a sweet corn purée. If there was any filler in it, I couldn’t taste it. The side of green beans was vibrant in color and had some crunch remaining. I would’ve liked some butter with them though. For dessert I had a double espresso. Now, I hope you’re seated. The waitress comes over to my table and says that someone has taken care of my check. I’m sitting there dazed and confused for a second. She tells me that the couple that had been sitting behind me paid for my meal. That kind of thing shifts your worldview way to...
Read moreI wanted to give this place a good review based on our lunch choices. Both the grilled cheese and turkey bacon sandwich were amazing, along with the ff. Our server was less than stellar. I thought long and hard about not leaving a tip. First, it took forever to come to our table. Restaurant was not busy at 1:30 pm. My husband ordered a coke which again took forever to arrive. When it finally came, I asked our server, Melvin, a question about the surrounding islands. After he answered, he started to walk away then said, oh I forgot to take your order. Our meal came timely and was delicious. He never came back to ask how we liked our lunch, despite the fact that he cleared the table next to us. He never even turned to see if we were happy with our meal. I finally had to ask another person to ask him to return with a box and the bill. When he finally returned, I gave him my debit card. I then waited again. I could hear him talking to others but he didn’t come back. After a while he came into view so he could look at the tv. When he turned and saw me, he said, did I give you your card back? No Melvin you did not. If he is your server, ask for someone else. I won’t be back. Very...
