Rhum Bar at Front Street Grill — Restaurant in Beaufort

This place is great, just DON’T BRING YOUR BLACK FRIENDS there. I’ve been to this place twice, once with a group of white ppl and I was very impressed with the food and service. Eager to go again and show off to my fishing buddy my new hotspot I decided to get us some food and drinks after a long day on the water. Just so happens my friend is a large black man with tattoos and huge head of dreadlocks. The place got pretty quiet when we sat down at the bar and the staff did their best to not make any eye contact or offer any service. Granted, we probably looked pretty haggard after fishing for literally 11 hours. When we did attempt to talk to or joke with the staff we received only short, irritated responses. It was clear to me that they weren’t worried about us but that we were simply not welcome there. We were treated with a mild neglect and basically kept to ourselves after a few failed attempts to chat/socialize. Had I not been so hungry and not already ordered our food before realizing how rudely we were being treated I would’ve just walked out. I suppose I could’ve canceled my order and then left but I did not want to give them any reason to complain. The food was good. I spent $98.00 and tipped $10.00. I would’ve like to have tipped zero but, again, I did not want to give them any reason to complain. I am 6’ 180lbs, dark headed, and darkly tanned (mother is from Thailand) and a former Marine, my friend is 6’ probably 230lbs. I’ve experienced a fair deal of racism but this place actually had me intimidated. From arrival to departure there was a lot of whispers and sideways glances. It seemed to me that the staff was planning some reaction for us, as if the staff wanted us to act up so they could punish us somehow. As we were leaving the dock in my boat I realized how relieved I was to make it out of there without any issues. I certainly will not be going back. I’m sure they will be happy about...

Usually the best place for late lunch- drinks were great! But the hostess and service front of the house the worst service we have ever had there! Walked in told come back in 10 mins they are not taking a wait anymore. I asked so we can’t eat here? Response oh no you can we are just changing menu.- 💭 thought why would you basically tell us to leave when the outside is great and we can sit and order a drink and wait- so we did and I asked do I need to go on the new menu wait for a table? She said no’ we will let you know-

As my father 83 who has never been there sat at an outside table and was told he couldn’t so I explained she said she would let us know- sit down by the water-

Mind you it was only three minutes till menu change- walk back to the hostess and it’s now 20 mins later and I ask how much longer?

She says- oh’ at 2:30 you can just pick any table- my response- well why didn’t you tell us that I’m the beginning - as my father was told he could not sit at a table and I waited 20 mins to take them there and wait bc I was told you would let us know!

At this time no tables now available at all!

Sucks! Be a long time before I take anyone back there! Don’t recommend- hostess was rude and didn’t care! I spoke to the manager and she had nothing to say to me about the service! Said sorry for your experience- Didn’t even offer to get us a table! Been going there 20 years and bringing people there as they come to visit with my Airbnb’s, personal friends, or for fishing tournaments- we left and had much better service at local place...

We waited about 10 minutes for a table inside and then were seated and waitied 5 minutes for a glass of water (it was just as hot and humid inside as it would have been to sit outside). We ordered 2 cups of clam chowder and they cups came to us luke warm and as I made a coment about it to my husband the waitress came by asking if it was hot because she had tried some in the back and it wasn't very warm. I let her know that it was luke warm and she offered to microwave it for us, but it didn't make a difference at that point because he had already eaten half the small cup anyways. My salad was a bed of lettuce and no seasonal veggies, nor no crutons. The waitress said she didnt think it came with crutons when I had asked but the menu clearly stated seasonal veggies and garlic crutons. Then my husband wanted the cucumber salad with his sandwhich and it came with fries and when discussed with the waitress she brought a tiny cup of the cucumber salad to try. The service was incredibly slow, the food was lacking big time and the inside of the resturant was very humid. I don't recommend wasting your time to get a table at this place. I am sure there is better places to eat with better service and where you get all of your meal that is brought to you at a normally cooked...
