Island Proper Boutique — Local services in Beaufort

Would generally agree with other reviewers who've pegged this place as overpriced and unfriendly. Not even department stores sell Free People at full retail pricing. I stopped in because I was killing time just wandering through Beaufort; I suppose I wasn't dressed the part, as the staff was a bit rude. I would've hung around and shopped longer if I felt welcome there because there were some cute deals once I picked through a few racks, but I did not feel like the cashier was asking to hold my stuff up front in an effort to be helpful. It's a real shame because I want so much to support local businesses, but if I'm gonna be treated like a thief just because I'm wearing walking clothes, I have no idea how this place is going to survive in a town that...

Walked in with my kids and wife. My wife held our one-year old the entire time we were there while my 5-year old daughter walked around with me. At one point my daughter ended up on the other side of the store but she was just walking around and not bothering anyone. My wife exited the store with both kids and I was still inside, unbeknownst to the girls working there. They started talking about how terrible my kids were and how they hated when adults brought kids into the store. Once they realized I was still in there and that I heard them their response was, “it’s not our problem we don’t like kids.”

If I could give this place zero stars I would and their stuff is overpriced anyway. Go two doors down to the boutique and it’s significantly better - and...

This was my second time here in the last 3 years, and just like my first time, I was ignored as soon as I walked and throughout the entire time in the shop. Like many other reviewers have said, the staff are selective with who they greet and do come off snobby. It is very odd to me because none of the other shops I frequent showcase this kind of poor service. This could be that the staff are very young and inexperienced with good customer service, or they are profiling people.
