Let me start by saying this low rated review is based not on the food, but of the service. The food was great!
Now on to the reason we will not return regardless of how good the food was. This was Memorial Day. By all accounts, in normal times, it should have been packed for the dinner crowd. It wasn't. We were told that we would have to wait 20-30 minutes for our outside table. No problem. 30 minutes came and went. We finally were seated and on our way to the table, there was a large spill in our path. It was either cocktail sauce or ketchup. Whatever it was, we weren't warned of it and asked to watch our step. So I pulled my daughter out of it and told the rest of my family to be sure to avoid it. The entire time we were there wait staff and other patrons had to sidestep the spill. There was even an elderly gentleman that had trouble walking that had to be navigated through it in order to leave the deck.
After being seated, 2 other tables were seated within minutes and a waitress had their drink and dinner orders before we were even greeted. When we finally were greeted, the waitress took a while to bring our drinks. Waters and sodas...no big deal. We ordered and that's when it got really bad. We waited for our plates of food for well over an hour and had NO contact from the waitress or any other staff member. At one point my husband even got up and had to go try to find someone to ask about our food. So we waited even longer. By this time my entire family was out of drinks and had been for quite some time. The waitress finally returned and got refills. My family was very frustrated and hungry. It was dark and no one acknowledged the excessive wait time. Needless to say, the food could've been the best we have ever eaten, but by this point, we were done.
We will not be returning, which is unfortunate because this place was highly recommended by locals! I could understand if it was busy, but it wasn't. The pandemic has caused many restaurants to reopen under specific guidelines and for that I'm thankful. If this was due to those guidelines I would surely understand. This lack of customer service was just due in part to a very lazy staff that...
Read moreTo not bury the lede, this was a really unfortunate experience. We won't return.
The wait for a table was fine (10 minutes). The hostess called us. The five of us (2 adults, 3 children) entered. She seated us at a table outside as asked.
It was nice outside - gentle breeze, moderate temp. We kept ourselves entertained with good conversation.
It was downhill from there. We then waited for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, we noticed that groups that came in after us were being served (drinks and dishes). I brought this to the hostess's attention. She assured me that she would get the server who was supposed to be assigned to the table.
I waited indoors for the person - 5 to 10 more minutes.
Once the server came to the table, she blamed whoever was supposed to communicate with her. At this point, all you want to hear is, "We're sorry. We're going to get your order." Adding who's fault it is is unnecessary.
We got our drinks, and one of my children's cups was dirty (looked like some sort of cream sauce on the top and rim of the cup). Went up front to exchange that.
After a wait for the food, the server dropped the food on the way to the table. That was the end for us. After an hour here, we left with no food, a crying six year-old, and a whole lot of disappointment.
------ Perspective to read if you'd like ------ I hesitated to add this, because I believe it's important to be responsible with my words and not assign intent to others' actions unless they pretty explicitly show/tell me. (1) It doesn't sit well when you're the only black family in an establishment, and you're forgotten about and then continue to receive low service. Regardless of intent, it just doesn't. I try not to read into things, but it's an unfortunate detail for this evening. (2) After an hour of mess that would have turned into and hour and a half of mess had we waited for a new order, it's wild (to me) to think the concession is 1/2 off. Some may think otherwise, but at that point, I'm telling the diners that...
Read moreGreat food, huge portions. Their shrimp and grits are divine. The shrimp stuffer is really good too. Sitting on the deck on a cool, breezy day is the best. The only things I didn’t like was 1) I had to take a call from my daughter who was out of town and didn’t get to eat when the rest of my party did and the owner or manager (male) (seeing I still had a full plate) started asking everyone if they needed boxes, which I thought was rude, and 2) my daughter that was with me took my wallet to go next door to get a swimsuit after she finished eating (about 15 mins before I did) and the server and owner kept hovering over the table asking us to pay the bill. This was the same time I still had a full plate and we never left the table. I eventually told them I was waiting on her to bring me back my wallet and they just kind of stood about 10’ away like they were afraid I was gonna make a run for it. I finally called her and told her to bring me back my wallet (before she’d made her purchase) because they were making me uncomfortable. Once we paid, everything went back to normal and they went about other tasks. We left a decent tip (like 22%), but I really didn’t feel comfortable being watched like a Hawk over a $93 bill. It wasn’t like we were a table full of teenagers. Was not very wheelchair friendly either. Lots of bumps to go over. Definitely not for someone who can’t stand for a few...
