As locals we've heard people rave about this chain for years, and finally decided to try it; very disappointing. Two stars because the pizza was edible. But on the con side ... it's confusing when you walk in, because you have to pass the "bar" to get to the place where you order food in a separate line. After you order the food, you have to go back to the bar to order your drinks, even if it's soda or water. Mind you it's not a real bar, just a 6' countertop with some taps. You wait at your table and hope you'll hear when they call out your order number, then you go BACK to the counter to pick up your food. While waiting at the counter, you get to watch employees in the kitchen using their so-called sanitary gloves to handle filthy industrial-sized cans of pre-made pizza sauce, then smear that sauce over the pizza crust for upcoming orders. We got their normal thin-crust, square-cut pizza with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. Mushrooms are canned (which I like), and sausage is the kind that comes in tiny crumbles (which I also like), very similar looking to Cassano's. But the crust was bland, and the toppings were generic tasting, like a mediocre frozen pizza. I also got the worst acid reflux I've had in years after this meal - and I take meds for that and haven't felt the burn even after lots of greasier food, so what's up with that. Overall we guess we're glad we can say we went, but we will definitely...
Read moreHi, you can consider me a pizza aficionado after having eaten probably hundreds of pizzas in the past 40 years of my life. I become gleeful when I discover a new pizza I find delicious and satisfying and quite the opposite when I encounter lousy pizza. Marion's fits the bill! This is the first time I've had Marion's and most likely the last! It was truly a dismal experience. When it was brought to my table, I immediately remarked that it resembled a Tostinos frozen pizza. Sadly, it tasted like one too. I haven't had a Tostinos in years as the few chance encounters I had with it in my youth scarred me for life. Tostinos is bargain basement pizza for those who have to feed a bunch of hungry kiddos who have not yet discerned what good pizza really tastes like as well as budget mind seniors who refuse to pay for restaurant style pizza. The pizza I had today was frightfully similar when it shouldn't be. There's a reason why frozen pizza is usually subpar. It's created for that purpose. Marion's is supposed to be a beacon in the Dayton community for the past 50 plus years so it should be as expected a far better product. Maybe it was a fluke and I came on a day when the folks making my pizza we're having a bad day. Even so, for the price paid and reputation backing it, it shouldn't have ever came even close of reminding me of...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to try this place for a while now! And yesterday, it finally happened! When I was living in St. Louis, I became addicted to St. Louis style super thin crust pizza. I was told, this would be the place to come and find something similar.
I gave them a call and placed an order about an hour in advance. Two 13 inch pizzas. One with pepperoni and mushrooms and the other with pepperoni, sausage and bacon. My order was ready when I arrived and everything was just as we asked.
Let me tell you, they really load the pizza with toppings! The triple meat pizza was definitely my favorite! I could eat that all day every day! The sausage had great flavor! It had a spice that seemed a little different than what I normally expect, but it was wonderful!
Just a heads up that they cut the pizzas with super tiny Square and rectangle slices. I personally think this is perfect considering I have kids who don’t really need a very big piece. Also, it made me feel less guilty as I went back for more and more! LOL.
The only “problem” was that the sausage on the three meat pizza very easily crumbled and fell off as we picked it up. The sausage comes in teeny tiny pieces and since it wasn’t the bottom ingredient, it didn’t have cheese to adhere to. If that makes...
