4.0 star rating 3/19/2016 My girlfriend and I tried this restaurant out for the first time today: she had been to the restaurant a couple of years before. It's in a funky spot: it's on the second floor of a Korean grocery store (Gmart on the 1st floor has lots of interesting stuff). This restaurant is only about 10 minutes from my house, which is nice since I live in the culinary borderland/wasteland of Portland/Beaverton. The food is pretty good and the prices are very reasonable.
We had the Bibimbap and thought for the price there should have been more meat. It also seemed really bland: it had no seasoning whatsoever and the egg was slightly overcooked. We had to ask the waitress to bring over some pepper sauce and soy (she forgot to bring us any condiments and the other tables all had them). With the addition of the soy and pepper sauce, the Bibimbap was tasty even without much meat (1 oz or less).
The eight appetizer plates were all terrific and the server offered to bring us more if we wanted. The beef bulgogi was excellent. The meat came out sizzling and had plenty of flavor. The meat was very tender: no gristle of fat. Also, it was served with a bowl of rice.
I'm a big guy and we brought home enough food for another full meal for two and our bill was only $26.
Overall, I liked the place and plan return. Service was fast but not...
Read moreThis is a restaurant on the second floor of a Korean grocery store where you can enjoy authentic Korean food. It has been a long time (it was last July😓) since I last visited, I found that the oxtail soup, which I used to love, is no longer on the menu. So I had no choice but to try a similar pork stew, which was also so tasty🤤. While my husband ordered the Pork Bulgogi, which was also exquisite! 😍 I am sure that every dish on the menu is delicious, and I would like to try many other dishes as well.😊✨ 1/4/2023 Last time, everything was so good that we tried other dishes. This time we had 8.Haemul Bokkeun Udon and 9.Jabchae. The japchae was as good or better than other good Korean japchae. The udon was spicy, but the chewy texture was addictive and it had a lot of big seafood in it. 😻 Both dishes were delicious and we will try other dishes again. 🤤 04/20/2023 Mandu (Korean-style dumplings?), Pajeon (Korean-style okonomiyaki), Haemul Bokkeum Udon (spicy seafood udon). 11/15/2023 We've come here many times, and we usually stick to our favorite dishes, so we end up ordering the same things.😅 However, the Seafood Udon has a chewy texture in the noodles and is delicious, so I recommend it to those who enjoy spicy food. The bone-in pork ribs are also tender and very tasty.🤤 05/17/2024 I'll only post photos of dishes we haven't shared...
Read moreWe can’t wait to go back and try more. I almost didn’t even want to write this review because I want this place to remain a hidden gem but it’s too good not to spread the word.
Hidden upstairs in a Korean grocery store, the food was authentic and the atmosphere too. We arrived at 8:10pm on a Friday and the lady made an exception for us as the kitchen closed at 8, although the restaurant stays open till 9. We recommend coming before then.
We tried the bulgogi, the chicken bulgogi, and a kimchi pancake without the pork. Before the food came out, they brought us banchan which we devoured. It was a collection of kimchi, fish cakes, potatoes in sweet soy sauce, pickles radishes, pickles, and broccoli. The kimchi was so good that we asked for more. We couldn’t stop eating everything when it arrived—definitely come here super hungry.
The chicken had a very smokey flavor to it, just a bit of a heads up. I wasn’t expecting that and although it was delicious, it’s not a taste I’m very used to.
We can’t wait to come back and try more. Plus the grocery store had some fascinating items that we want to check out, too.
Also, the sweetest older women were waiting on our tables and ran the house. They were very kind...
