Finally a French influenced Korean bakery/cafe in this area that has hit the mark! So many have tried and failed over the last 2 decades. If you've been to Korean bakeries in LA, San Jose/Bay area, you know it's tough to live without them.
it's an interesting niche what the Koreans have done... Combining and integrating French pastries with a Korean spin. And like so many Korean bakeries with French influence in large metropolitan areas have done so well, tous Les jour follows suit.
There are a few stores in the area that have a very meager selection that is not fresh, at all. It's the sort of thing obsessive types like my family and i are disappointed by. This place is NOT that; this place is so good!
Met the owners today, and I even got a glimpse of their ovens as freshly baked goods were continually being carted out. Clearly they went all in and spared no expense.
If you want to impress at your next office meeting, or you've been invited to a meal, take a box of their fresh good.
Today we tried the following: Blueberry cream cheese pastry, and let me tell you the texture is outstanding. Almond croissant Chestnut pastry, which I've never had before and was well worth the price. Tomato Olive Danish which was this wonderful flaky savory pastry Sweet rice donut Sweet sesame donut Crispy almond pastry which is very similar to the almond croissant And a latte, shots pulled flawlessly by one of the owners himself.
If you want to have a light amazing after meal dessert for a celebration their cakes are nothing like what many Western bakeries do. a long-standing favorite of mine is the strawberry whipped cream cake, and tous Les jour has done it justice. If you are like me, that is the one dessert that I will miss from Beaverton bakery, so I am quite relieved they have a similar offering here.
I hope this place keeps it up and does well purely for selfish reasons, so that my family and I can continue...
Β Β Β Read moreEvery single pastry, dessert, creation, or anything that was edible inside Tous Les Jours looked so good! This was our last stop in Portland before going back to Seattle, but I really wish we had another day in Portland so that I could get one of those decadent desserts.
I also really loved the calming aesthetic and environement because of the nice interior with all the wood tones. Anyways, we just got an assortment of pastries, mostly croissants because I do love myself some good croissants and they looked like they were the best thing there. I also love how each pastry is individually wrapped.
I had the chance to try the chocolate croissant and the almond croissant. At first glance of the croissant, they have a beautiful crust and beautiful golden brown exterior. In my mind I would think they would also be very flakey, and have that nice crisp outside. However, I was kind of disappointed to bite into it and it wasn't crisp at all, and it was more like a bread instead of a luxurious croissant. It still was very buttery, and had a pillowy inside, but I wish the croissants had that flakiness that I love in a good croissant. The chocolate in the chocolate croissant was super rich and dark, which was enjoyable. But, on the almond croissant which was amazing were the almonds on top. They were super crunchy, and had this luscious and deep roasted and nutty flavor. The almonds on top seriously elevated the almond croissant, and the almond filling inside complimented everything else as well.
Overall, I would still eat these croissants every morning, but there still are thinga that could be better. But, whenever I'm down in Portland, hopefully I could stop by again to check out what...
