Best Teriyaki opens at 10:30 on weekdays, which is convenient for me, because I work an early shift and lunch from 10-11. Some places near my work that I won't mention are not open before 11.
While waiting for them to open, I looked up their menu online and, well, I couldn't find it, but I did find reviews, so I checked them out. People said awful things about them, but there were only 7 reviews. I don't really trust reviewers and expect all of you to be critical of me. I'm not the worlds greatest food critic, and the only reason I'm writing a review is:
First let me preface by saying, I wish reviewers would elaborate on "gross" when reviewing food. What's gross about it? People come from all walks of life, and not every dining spot is going to please everyone.
How bad can chicken teriyaki be? I mean, if they were that terrible, nobody would be visiting, the health inspectors would shut them down, or they'd simply be out of business.
My experience was these guys aren't bad. I ordered the #1 item on the menu, chicken teriyaki and didn't substitute anything, so I could get it as the house prepares it. I took the order to go. My meal was 1/4 rice, 1/4 salad, and 1/2 chicken. They probably put more chicken in than the 2 other places I frequent. The salad was not for me. It's actually more like a coleslaw? Hard to say for certain, but there's some light dressing like a vinaigrette, small thinly sliced carrots, a couple pieces of broccoli, and the lettuce was crunchier than most salads. I just didn't like the texture or taste.
The rice was a clump of white rice which just screamed starchy, but it semi broke apart when I mixed it with the chicken and teriyaki sauce. They do give a few little containers of extra teriyaki and what looks to be a reddish hot sauce I didn't try.
The chicken didn't have a real hearty teriyaki taste to it, but there was a lot of chicken, more than I could eat. So unless you have a real big appetite, what they give you should be plenty.
Next time I go, I'll ask them to substitute the white rice with brown, and hold the salad, coleslaw, vegetables, or whatever it is they call it.
Overall I would say this is grubbin food, the type of stuff you get on the go, but it's what you should expect. I mean, are you walking into a joint called Best Teriyaki expecting to be catered to with a fine dining experience? No. This is fast food of the chicken world. It's not real quality, but the chicken is fine, the flavor is sufficient, and there are many other items on their menu to try as well.
I will say I wish the food cart or other teriyaki places were open when I take my lunch break on time, because they're cheaper and better. But the amount of food B.T. provides is worth the price I guess. It's just an average place to get some chicken teriyaki if you're needing a fix.
While I'll probably eat this again because of their hours of operation, I doubt I'd ever take this home to the family. A 3 star rating says "It's okay" and that's fine. This isn't terrible, but as others say, it's certainly not the best, so just don't go in with high...
Read moreBeen coming Best Teriyaki for decades, back when they had several locations and when it used to be one of those must have cravings. Pretty sure ownership or management has changed hands at least once or twice? Everything used to be so good, rib and chicken combo and chicken rice bowl have always been my goto meals. Sadly at some point in time (maybe 2000-2019 -ish) the recipes changed, and quality seemed to had dropped off as their other locations also closed. Beaverton is all that's left. The decor hasn't changed much inside but the tasty flavor is back.
Seem who ever is running the ship now actually does care about serving food that actually tastes good. Even the cooked cabbage is tasty with it's mild blend of spices and crunch, perfect mix on a combo plate or rice bowl. I still order the chicken rice 'bowl' a couple times a month ... seems the traditional bowl shape has been replaced with a rectangle tray on togo orders, which is fine as the volume of food seems about the same, of course inflation has hit the rice bowl at $10.75. The thick warm sweet teriyaki sauce here is absolutely delicious and something special (can't find anything close a the grocery stores), glad they keep big bottles on the counter as I always pour some extra teriyaki sauce over my meal along with a bit of hot Rooster sauce (The original Sriracha) which despite many knock-off brands still has the best tasting flavor profile. Only thing missing here is some traditional Hawaiian macaroni salad, as Best Teriyaki is pretty close to having a Hawaiian menu and style, easily comparable to 808 Grind and Roxy. Rice here is always cooked perfectly, chicken is moist with a nice bit of char, the side cabbage is a tasty compliment and meals are a decent portion size. Definitely back to being a must have craving at least a couple times a...
Read moreFirst time try.
It was a good experience. We tried the spicy pork, teriyaki beef and chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Portions are fair. Sweet and sour chicken was fried very crispy and can really hold up to the sauce, which was a very nice surprise. Beef and pork sliced then and teriyaki chicken gets a nice char on it. Rice and veggies could use some salt, but i understand serving alongside something with teriyaki sauce could be overwhelmingly salty for someone. The Man taking orders at the counter was great. He was friendly and helpful with the decision process for our meals. He was very engaging with each and every customer which was nice to see. Restaurant itself was a clean place with lots of tables. Sauces and sodas are self serve which is always a plus. I would definitely be back to try some of the...
