Just to preface this review. I am a Korean-american who has eaten in many places korean places in LA. Before this place opened, I preferred just making korean food at home since I could make it better and for cheaper. With that said, this is the place you want to go to for quality korean food.
6 Fresh side dishes with various flavor profiles so you don't get bored. Most of the korean restaurants in the surrounding area tend to be cheap with this sadly. It could be that most people who aren't used to korean food barely touch side dishes anyway, but I honestly have no clue. Because if the side dishes are trash, the food is also usually disappointing.
The dishes are full of flavor. One reviewer didn't really like the Soon Dubu here, but I've had it twice already and both times they were really good. It had a strong beef flavored stock where many other places in the area tend to be watery. While it wasn't the best I've ever had (that's reserved for Yong Dong in California), it was definitely the 2nd best I've ever had. The only issue with the Soon dubu is that it might need a little more salt, but that is easy to adjust. The beef tartar is also amazing. The sauce it comes with really brings it to another level. The dukboki might be a hit or miss as it is very seafoody (so if you dont like seafood this is probably not the dish for you), but it has a delightful texture that is soft on the outside and chewy on the inside. The bibimbap with pork was also incredible. Make sure to add the spicy sauce they bring with it. And the galbi-jim (braised beef) is perfection. Falls off the bone and easy to chew the collagen. I'm not sure where you can get better galbi-jim in this area.
The service is great. They are very polite, accommodating, and attentive. However, I've only ever gone when it isn't too busy, so service might go down when they get packed.
My mom would not stop asking the waitresses what food they had just delivered because everything looked and smelled so good when they brought it out.
While some might argue that the food is pricey, from my experience with korean food at other restaurants, the food is priced very reasonably for the quality...

I don't really eat a lot of Korean food except for KBBQ which I am an avid enjoyer of, because of this I walked into Hansik a little nervous on what I would order and what the expectations would be. I was immediately greeted with a friendly face and a smile from the nice young man at the host stand (His name is blanking on me but I'm sure I will see him again very soon!) after he showed me to my seat (very quickly I might add) I was soon offered water and tea by Gloria, I thought there was no way the service could've gotten better and boy was I wrong!
Soon after seating Katie came over to my table and walked me through the menu and I was very impressed with her extensive knowledge of not only the menu but just Korean food in general. After a few minutes of deliberating we decided on the Beef Soft Tofu Soup and this is where my meal was really elevated.
Like I said before I'm more of a Korean BBQ guy and I was a little nervous to try more homestyle Korean food, but after my first sip of the broth I was 100% changed. The broth was the perfect level of salty, umami and spicy, the beef was just as soft and melty as the tofu. I noticed that it was a tad bit too hot however that just gave me more time to glance at the extensive and impressive décor.
After eating for a bit Hyun Mi came over to my table to ask if everything tasted good, I explained to her that everything was very good! She then asked if she could grab me anything else and even though its not traditional to eat Soft Tofu Soup with Ssamjang it is one of my favorite sauces so I asked for some, Hyun Mi came back with a heaping portion of Ssamjang that I can just explain as heavenly. It was perfectly salty and nutty and had a very sweet aftertaste that I haven't tasted anywhere else.
From the first impression from the host to the continued attention from all the servers I know that I will continue to visit Hansik as this has been some of the best Korean...
Read moreYikes. Worth avoiding if you want good Korean food.
First, the menu panders to people being introduced to Korean food which isn't terrible if it weren't for the completely lack of flavor. The banchan isn't automatically served, but only when you order a dish (i.e. party of 5 orders 5 dishes, you may get 5 sets of banchan). Doesn't make sense to me and is something that can be easily changed. The english translation is bolded and comes first before the hangul - it's fine but made me skeptical before I took a bite.
The pajeon, soondubu and the bimbimbap's had absolutely no flavor - I mean none that scratched my tastebuds .. no salt, no spice, no sesame, etc. The galbi jjim tasted like someones first time attempting to make it - not bad but not great either. The meat didn't seem that high quality. The jeyuk bokkeum was the only thing that actually had decent flavor which is labeled "spicy," which for a lightweight is more than tolerable. So your best bet is to order something "spicy" if you end up coming here and want flavor but it's nothing to write home about. You'd be better off picking up ingredients and prepackaged meals at H Mart or Go Bu Gi.
The vibe comes off faux fancy but it's too wide-open and sound resonates throughout the whole restaurant. The floor plan and chandeliers (which they kept) worked when it was Queenz Asian Cuisine as they advertised it as a Chinese banquet but, they may also suffer...
