Well, I'm going to revise my review because I think in my previous review, I was confusing the menu items I saw posted online with another local coffee house. So my critique there was erroneous. But I'm also revising my 3 star rating to 4 stars because I appreciate the owner's professional reply.
On to my [revised] review...
The Latte I had was good and very artistic. But they missed the boat in a couple areas. Perhaps I'm just too spoiled with places that have everything dialed in, like Starbucks.
First, I wish they had breakfast sandwiches. I was hungry. But they don't have any breakfast sandwiches. :/ Next, I bought a bagel and asked if it could be heated. They said, "There's a toaster over there you can use." Hmmm.... kind of lame. Starbucks, Sunrise Bagels, et. al. all heat them up for you. I'm not sure why this place won't do it. But it's disappointing, when I've just come to expect that from other coffee / breakfast places.
Finally, the bathroom (and bathroom door) are falling apart a little and in need of repair. I hear now that they're about to go thru a remodel that will take care of this. So I guess that's good, that they'll be addressing the issues here.
The atmosphere was nice. Nice tables. Plenty of room. Just wish they hit the mark on few more things. Lot of potential. Hopefully after their remodel they will have room for a microwave and fix a few more of these things. But impressed with the owner's professionalism. So I think all in all, 4 stars...
Read moreNot sure what is going on with Haven, but it seems to be changed post covid. It's now setup as essentially a to go ordering experience, and the newer staff are far less personable and it shows im the ordering experience.
The big drawback is that they switched the house beans they use for espresso drinks. While a unique flavor it's very distinct and not a good and versatile roast to use in every form of drink. It's a huge step down from the sleepy monk beans that were being used prior.
Having only discovered Haven about 2 years ago, it feels like I missed this shop's prime. The photos you see of a coffee house with seating style, pastries and that local feel have not been the case these last few years and they claim a remodel is the culprit, however that has been the claim for the entirety I've been visiting there.
Highly recommended to the owners to switch the beans back to sleepy monk or at least use a more neutral or espresso enhancing roast from the roaster you now use. At this point, for me, it's only a place I come to pickup the sleepy monk beans and brew at home.
More importantly the staff need to realize they are the face of the experience. Right now the scowls and the lack customer service really take away from it all. With all of the glowing reviews I'm wondering if I somehow have just gotten that unlucky with the service and drink quality my...
Read moreWe were excited to try Haven, our local neighborhood coffee shop, as we love supporting small businesses. Without the kids this weekend, we stopped by on Sunday morning for coffee and breakfast. We ordered a few drinks—three espresso shots and a London Fog (Haven style)—along with a breakfast sandwich to share.
When my partner picked up our drinks from the counter, he noticed that our drinks had curdled milk in them and his was not made to order. He politely asked the barista if the drinks could be remade. Unfortunately, he was met with attitude from the barista wearing a hat who was preparing the drinks. She repoured his espresso shot and pointed to the cream telling him he could add his own.
He returned to the table shocked at how we were treated. For a first visit, this was pretty disappointing. How you treat people is everything, and I’m not sure we’ll be back after this experience. I hope the owners see this and take action to address what happened with the staff member who was working Sunday morning...
