Preface: To everyone who has visited Salt and Straw in Portland, you'll know what to expect! To those who've never visited, expect premium flavors at a premium price. I'll definitely recommend everyone to visit at least once!
Product: 5/5 The flavors available are unique and it stands out (Goat cheese marionberry habanero??). Daniel recommended to me the limited time flavor "wild-foraged very slab pie" and it was delicious!
Value: 2.5/5 It's pretty expensive. I got a single scoop with a cone and it came to $7.25.
Timeliness: 4.5/5 I was AMAZED how efficiently it ran! As you're in line, they would come up to you before you're at the front to give you a chance to sample flavors. Despite being at the end of the line outside of the store, it took us less than ten minutes before we were out.
Customer Service: 5/5 Daniel was a GODSEND. He came up to us with a great smile and made us feel very welcomed despite it being, I'm sure, a long opening day. He helped me narrow down my flavor (I'm one of those annoying customers in front of the line trying multiple flavors before buying haha) and he didn't seem perturbed whatsoever. No matter how good your product is, customer service can make or break a company. Thanks to Daniel, we left with an amazing experience!
Cleanliness: 5/5 After you're done with the silverware sample spoon, you throw it down these chutes in the counter for it be cleaned. Dunno why I find that so cool. Also, I washed my hands in the restroom and it looks fine (it's the first day anyways). Maybe it's just me, but when a restroom looks atrocious, it kinda makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes.
Presentation: 5/5 Uh, they have a freakin' fountain outside of their building. 'Nuff said. They made sure that the outside area was just as important as their interior. It just makes sense as it's an ice cream shop! Great choice!
Overall: 4.5/5 If I had to mention a downside, it would be that their prices are quite high. If my opinion changes, I'll definitely edit this review. At this point in time, you should definitely give this place a try if you...
Read moreI recently visited Salt & Straw in Beaverton and had a really enjoyable experience. The ice cream here is truly special—each flavor is unique, bold, and crafted with high-quality ingredients. I’m a fan of adventurous flavors, and Salt & Straw definitely delivers. The Salted Caramel Ribbon is a classic favorite, offering the perfect balance of sweet and salty. I also tried their seasonal flavors, which are always fun to experiment with. On this visit, I had a scoop of their Honey Lavender, which was fragrant and creamy, and the “Freckled Mint TCHO-COCO,” a refreshing mint chocolate chip variation with a twist. Every bite was rich and full of flavor, making it clear that they put a lot of thought and care into their offerings.
The staff at the Beaverton location was friendly and helpful. They took the time to explain the flavors and even offered samples, which is always a great touch. I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere inside the shop is casual and modern, with a fun vibe that makes it easy to enjoy your treat and relax. The space is also clean and well-maintained, which is always important when enjoying food.
The reason I’m giving Salt & Straw 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the price, which is definitely on the higher end for ice cream. The portions are generous, but I still found myself feeling like I was paying a bit more than I would at other local spots. Additionally, the lines can sometimes be a bit long during peak hours, although the service is efficient once you're at the counter.
That said, Salt & Straw in Beaverton is definitely worth a visit. Whether you’re a fan of traditional flavors or looking to try something new, there’s something for everyone. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try more flavors and enjoy the...
Read moreUPDATE: Salt and Straw reached out to me via email after my original review and apologized for my experience. It was really sweet! I wasn't going to go back, but they sent a gift card so I gave it another try. This time I went directly for the pint fridge as the line was even more intense than the previous time.
I want to give a special shout-out to Emily who was clearly busy and didn't appear to have an assignment as cashier or scooper but still took time to give me advice on pints. Emily even went and got me a taste of the chocolate potato salad, I was just gonna buy it and go. I'm glad they did because I went with the salted caramel instead!
I've changed my rating from one to five stars after S&S went so far to deliver a satisfactory experience.
I've updated my review to reflect my second experience, but you can read my original review below...⬇️
ORIGINAL REVIEW
I waited a long time in line and people were close enough to be touching me the entire time. It was pretty stressful for someone who doesn't like crowds but I have heard a lot of hype about this place and I LOVE ice cream! When we got close to the counter I waited to be called up to the counter. An employe directed everyone to move up to the counter so I complied. Then they started serving other people in line behind me and just completely skipped over me. They started helping people who were two and three places in line behind me.... it didn't feel good :( So I left because I didn't want to speak meanly. As a queer person I'm used to being treated poorly but that was so uncool. It really was not a good...
