We went to this restaurant on a weekend for an evening dinner and had a horrendous experience. We have been here before, and it seems the restaurant hasn’t been completely honest with its customers in the past. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A VEGETARIAN DIET. Here are some details about our experience. My wife is a vegetarian, and she ordered her usual vegetable potstickers and steamed vegetable dumplings. We got our order of the vegetable potstickers first and as soon as she took the first bite and looked at the filling, she realized that this was likely not vegetables. I and the other folks in our group ate meat and we confirmed that the vegetable potstickers were chicken potstickers instead. We brought this to the attention of our server, and she promptly jumped into action. She apologized as this was likely a mistake in the kitchen. We understand that errors like this happen, and she agreed to send in another order of the vegetable potstickers ASAP. The real shock and the reason for my 1-start review was when she told us during our conversation that even the VEGETABLE POTSTICKERS AND VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS CONTAIN CHICKEN POWDER and hence are truly not vegetarian friendly. When we pointed out that the ridiculousness of this, she pointed me to the part of the menu which was not written in English and asked me to read it more carefully as it was not marked as V (for vegetarian). Having been to this restaurant before, we knew that veggie potstickers and veggie dumplings used to be marked as vegetarian in the past and that is why my wife ordered her go-to items in an already vegetarian-unfriendly menu. Our waitress then mentioned that a few months ago, dough zone realized that they had been using chicken powder in items on their menu marked as vegetarian. FYI, you can look at menu photos from 2023 uploaded on google maps and can see vegetarian steamed dumplings and veggie potstickers marked as vegetarian. They recently changed their menu to be “more transparent” to their customers. Although, the new menu is hopefully more accurate, I think it is extremely concerning behavior from the restaurant and shows their dishonesty towards their customers. FOR I DON’T KNOW HOW LONG, THE RESTAURANT HAS BEEN FEEDING CHICKEN-POWDER INFUSED FOOD IN THEIR MENU ITEMS MARKED VEGETARIAN. This is sickening and quite frankly probably illegal. I hope my review helps folks looking for truly vegetarian food options. Do not go to dough zone, there is no way of telling if they put chicken powder in their milk tea (Afterall, it’s not marked as a V). For anyone looking for a cuisine like that served in this restaurant, I would recommend going to Ding Tai Fung instead. It has more vegetarian options and is not dishonest to...
Read moreHard to categorize Dough Zone ... it bridges between a fast food and a takeout restaurant but not a true restaurant and with portions that align more with dimsum verses entree. Cleanliness, service and quality are all good and I can really see the appeal to young highschoolers or newbies to asian noodles and bao who want fast fun non adventurous food. But the truth, for anyone a bit demanding, it's a step up from Panda Express, small portions and overpriced, and not memorable at all. The Bao where good ... small and thin walled with a meat filling proportional to the size and dough thickness .. these are not the giant fluffy type (cutie orange not navel orange sized). The filling was okay ... ground meat not shredded and salty but not flavorful. The fried Q-Bao was good enough to order again but the steamed bao was ho hum. The crab steamed dumplings smelled very crabby but had no flavor or crab meat at all, and soup dumplings and pot stickers were IDENTICAL to the ones Trader Joe's sells and where unimpressive all around. Quite franly ... all the meat fijng in all the various otems ordered tasted the same .. maserated pork meatball. The green onion pancake was sooo greasy and slightly undercooked and had no flavor save for the oil and included no dipping sauce. Really gross to be blunt. The Dan Dan noodle were good with a nice chew but about 2/3 the portion size we expected and the toppings and sauce was skimpy and if you have basic culinary skills you could easily replicate this dish for under $1 and in 15 min. The glass noodle were very good compared to the others, but again suffered from the portion size and weren't anything exotic or wonderful. So this outing set us back $75 with the feeling we got $35 worth of value and overall left us unimpressed and certainly not interested in repeating. NOT RECOMMENDED (Unless you are a teenager with your parents credit card out for a meal with friends then this is definitely a step up from Panda Express and better vibe than a fast food...
Read moreThe food is always awesome! When we go here we don't hold back. We order whatever sounds good with no fear of leftovers. Everything is too delicious to wanna order just a couple things.
Service is fine but it was confusing when we arrived, there was a line out the door and while I waited in a line to ask the host of there was a wait list for tables people just walked on past me and signed in even though we were already waiting. When I got the text our table was ready I waited in line again and when I reached the host station the person there did not want to make eye contact or speak with me. I waited patiently and then finally they asked what I wanted, I replied I got a text that our table was ready and they said the host would be along shortly.
Table service was efficient, but maybe a little too fast at first, then slow when you're finishing. I was glad we got a small 2 person table. But then we ended up between 2 baby tables, and one baby launched 2 of the restaurants pens at us in-between screaming. T-T
Thank goodness for 2nd baby who was quiet and distracted the 1st baby from screaming for at least a little while.
Both locations I've been to of Dough Zone suffer in the atmosphere dept. There is always quite the cacophony. The acoustics are rough. You can hardly hold a conversation. It was easier with just 2 people but when we had a group of 5 at either location, none of us could really hear one another. Made dinner awkward.
We may consider ordering takeout or something from this restaurant in the future.
Update: I recommend just about everything on the menu, but I think Dan Dan Noodles, Soup Dumplings, and Wonton in Chili Sauce are among my favorites. Also the 5 Spice Beef Flank is really good with a bite of Kale in Sweet...
