I want to try to explain this place because it is not typical, and I think needs some context.
Firstly, this place is an institution. A friend of mine has been going since the 90s and recommended it. Most that lived in the neighborhood for a long time know it and visit regularly.
It isn’t flashy or renovated, but don’t be alarmed. They have the right priorities: the food!
The food is not the standard full Japanese menu of ramen, tempura, etc. Instead they have a few variations of grilled meat with rice and salad—and they focus on those being really good.
The food is always fresh, grilled to perfection, and with amazing sauces. The best way I can describe it is Japanese comfort food. And it’s not greasy which is great too.
The cult favorite is the spicy chicken so try that first! And be careful it’s quite addicting so you’ll probably be back...

Except the fact that the chicken is FRESH! having been to several teriyaki places all over town this one really does it and does it well. Their in house spicy sauce is amazing. The rice is cooked well and doesn't feel like its been sitting there all day. I think one of the big indicators for a quality teriyaki place is the side dish. Do they serve a fresh salad with it or steamed vegetables? one kinda has to stay fresh which I think is an indicator of quality. This place does it well.
