This was my first ever visit. Parking at this location is horrible. My mother is 80 years old and had to park a block away, as did I. I don't mind walking, but in inclement weather, like that day, it's a challenge. I drove around and around, circling like a vulture, for over 15 minutes until I was able to find a precious car park a block away. On entering and well inside the place is visually stunning with a darkened, or slightly subdued, lighting ambiance of an upscale restaurant. But it has an odd reverberation of patrons voices that create a cafeteria like sound profile. If you close your eyes and listen, you'll swear you're sitting in a Luby's or Furr's cafeteria. It really was a rather strange and unpleasant atmosphere, to me anyway. They have a variety of seafood choices. I went because my mother was in the mood for fish and the restaurant is in a convenient location where we could meet for lunch. I'm a simple man with simple tastes, I was hoping they had traditional catfish. They do have fish and chips, which is beer battered catfish with "hand cut fries" and tangy slaw. I don't care for tempura batter so I asked if they could cook the fish in cornmeal only. Our server asked and was told they don't have cornmeal in the house. Disappointed I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a Cuban sandwich with fries. The chowder was the best I've ever had, creamy with a mild cheese flavor, not too salty like some are, and it had plenty of clams. But that was the best part of my meal. The Cuban was soggy, buttered bread but it was mushy in spite of the grill marks on it. It had very little unflavorful meat, there was barely detectable ham. The grilled onions overpowered the entire sandwich, with barely a hint of chipotle mayo or pickle relish. I think it had Swiss cheese on it but it was as non existent as the other ingredients. It was mainly a soggy grilled onion experience not at all to my liking. A very disappointing Cuban sandwich to say the least. There was a huge pile of soggy and greasy hand cut fries. Another huge let down. Service was good. That, and the absolutely delightful chowder are the only reasons for three stars. If I ever return it will be for the chowder. Be prepared for a parking adventure and take...
Read moreI've been going to Café Blue for a number of years, but unfortunately wont be returning. If you have been before you will know the food and service is generally good. That said, the prices are on a par with high end downtown restaurants which isn't a huge issue, however this should be reflected in every aspect. At this point I'd like to single out Brenda who is a great server. My wife and I were coming to the end of our meal on Friday 24th September, we were seated towards the rear of the restaurant and it was getting close to closing time, though there were still other patrons in the restaurant. Two girls came out with cleaning materials. I noticed the spray bottles and said to my wife that I hope they don't start spraying around us until we are at least finished out meal. Nope, she goes to the first table about 4ft from us and starts spraying right in our direction. I asked her to stop and they disappeared to the front of the restaurant. At that point I saw them pointing us out to who I assume might be a manager. I gestured for him to come over so I could explain why I asked them to stop spraying whatever cleaner was in the bottles in our direction. He stood over our table with a scowl and said nothing until I spoke and explained the situation. He still said nothing and kept staring. I said he was looking at me as if I had two heads and what was his problem? He said he didn't like his staff been ordered around, which they weren't. He turned around and simply walked away. I did say 'a-hole' as he was walking away to my wife. Maybe, I shouldn't have He did hear me and said 'you too sir'. After the escapade Brenda our server came over with Tony, another manager to apologize. What was pretty funny was that Tony said the spray cleaner was Ingestible; I said that makes everything ok. I said the apology should come from who I discovered was Akim, another manager apparently, but it wasn't forthcoming.
With his attitude this guy shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the service industry. A good night with good food completely spoiled by one idiot who shouldn't even be...
