Overall, the format of the cafe is confusing, the signs are hidden and difficult to find/see, the food is overpriced with overly large servings, and the atmosphere isnt great.
The food is alright, but there are unexpected fees. The prices were poorly lit in fairly small print high up on the wall, instead of in their typical spot right in front of the pastry. I did not see the prices until after I had paid for my 6 dollar rosemary garlic roll. The servings are rather large for one person, and it was a bit of a struggle to finish it. You'd be better off splitting something.
It is also bus your own tables, which is fine, but once again, that sign was on the counter nearly hidden behind the coffee stirrers and the straws. The tables were also sprinkled with crumbs.
Additionally, I expected to pay the listed price of 3.50$ for my Chai. However, there was a .75 cent fee adding honey into it, as well as another .50 cent fee for the tea being loose leaf. (Loose leaf tea also takes longer to make, about 5-10 minutes per their sign) So I ended up paying about 5.25$ in total for a Chai that I originally thought was going to be 3.50$.
The staff were nice.
Overall, the format of the cafe is confusing, especially the signs, which are small and unnoticeable unless you are actively looking for them. It is slightly overpriced. There are cheaper cafes with better food in Bellingham, like avenue bread, the bagelry in downtown Bellingham, or Harris Cafe and Colophon cafe...
Read moreI am incredibly disappointed with my experiences at Avellino. I have heard nothing but great things and was very excited to try a new coffee shop, but i have given it 3 tries and each one has been a waste of time and money. The first time, I got a coffee and banana bread. It was a very long wait, but that’s okay they were busy. I left before checking my food and didn’t notice but they gave me a slice of cake instead of banana bread. I was slightly disappointed, but it was just a mistake. I came back last week and got a tea and quiche, and waited 25 minutes before receiving my tea, and they completely forgot my quiche so it ended up being almost 40 minutes for a tea and a slice of premade food. I was charged to add honey to my tea, which they forgot to add. Just like last time, they gave me the wrong food and my tea was bitter and incredibly over-steeped. Today was my last try. Again, they forgot my food in the microwave and when I reminded them they didn’t reheat it so it was cold. I was the only person in there but i waited almost 20 minutes. The baristas were not very friendly either. I hate reviewing small businesses but this has been a consistent...
Read moreI came in during a moderately busy time, most people were placing coffee orders. I ordered the gluten free biscuits and gravy, two sausage breakfast burritos and two coffees. The B&G was good but not great, the biscuits had good flavor but were tough. The gravy was standard. The burritos were very tough and obviously microwaved, they were very poorly constructed and fell completely apart.
The person taking my order was not friendly, and rolled his eyes at me when I told him I had a wheat allergy, then again when I asked for utensils. They forgot our drinks and assumed we were ordering to go even though we were seated at the large family table. I was given to-go boxes and flimsy plastic-ware to eat my biscuits and gravy with, which was pretty off putting, difficult, and messy.
The music was super loud for a Saturday morning, the table was dirty, and scary to eat on, and my food was likely cross contaminated.
Avellino Cafe is not a dedicated gluten free facility, which is contrary to what the gluten free apps say, so caution…extreme caution if you have a wheat allergy or celiac disease.
I will not be returning, it was not a...
