We are from Vancouver BC Canada, and recently ate there after checking out the Bellingham Antique Mall across the street on Railroad Avenue. I like sandwiches so this was an ideal place for a bite to eat. I ordered the "Californian" sandwich which had free-range chicken, bacon, avocado, tomato, sprouts & ranch on toasted Ciabatta . The server asked if I would like some chips to go with it, and I said 'yes'. (the chips were kettle potato chips). I also ordered a cup of their soup of the day which was Tomato Dill soup. My friend only ordered a coffee. We arrived on a Sunday, around 1:45 pm. There were only 5 customers seated so the place was pretty empty. I assume we came just after the lunch/brunch crowd left, hence got there during their downtime. The place was spacious with lots of seats. I was waiting for my sandwich which seemed to take a lot longer than I expected. I was expecting it in 10 minutes time but when I had waited at least 20 minutes, I started to ponder since there weren't many walk in customers while we waited so not sure why it was taking so long. it seems there was only one prep person at their kitchen. The kitchen is an open kitchen and and well set up. You can tell from the set up they probably would have had more prep staff during their busy lunch time crowd but now it's their downtime, so only one person. They were also taking in some take out orders so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. Anyhow, we waited about 25 minutes and my order was finally served. The sandwich was very tasty and fresh and the tomato dill soup was good, too. Afterwards, I also ordered a hot chocolate to go.
I think I will check out their other locations for comparison purposes on our next visit to Bellingham. I am not that familiar with the downtown area and it was our first time checking out their downtown area. We walked from the Old City Hall Museum on Holly Street to this location on Railroad Avenue and noticed it had a few sketchy people and buskers loitering on the E. Holly St & Railroad. As we were walking out, we noticed 3 cops standing on Holly St (which is good). The situation (see a few sketchy people) is nothing too alarming as I have seen worse in other cities. I am glad we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted something simple for breakfast and I figured I would check out avenue bread as I haven't really gone here often. I went with my daughter on a busy Saturday, she's two so I always think it's nice to go to places that are kind of loud with her- business was poppin' as with most places on railroad on Saturday. Great family environment and warm tones all around with the brick wall woody tones and some nice art as decor. First thing that hits ya is the place smells great when you walk in.
Anyway I got this omelette called the kalamata or something like that I don't remember the name but I remember the insides as it was pretty bomb š£ arugula, black beans, sausage, and caramelized onions. Super good, great texture profile. I judge a breakfast place by their coffee and hash browns- I'm not really an Americano guy but today I was feeling plain so I got one, no cream or sugar. I don't know what beans they use but that coffee is fragrant and has a really nice flavor it's definitely not a dark roast. The hash, bruh the hash- perfect crisp man. 10/10 for a place to take your kid or have a coffee with your friends to have a good laugh over conversation. Will come again. š
Oh yeah the employees are all great too, nice people and it surprising how fast my stuff came out when it was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I were going to meet a few friends for lunch at Avenue Bread. When we got there, we ordered sandwiches and then waited 15 minutes. We asked if they would be ready soon, and were told they'd be right out. 10 more minutes pass. We're ready to go before we've even gotten our food, so I asked to just receive a refund because it's taken almost half an hour for them to make a sandwich. The young woman behind the counter assured me that it was coming right out now, and asked me if I'd like it to go instead. Just wanting to get out of there, I agreed and finally got our sandwiches and a complimentary cookie that was stale and hard as a rock. As I took my food and turned around, the young woman thought it would be appropriate to roll her eyes at me. Fortunately, the sandwiches tasted great once we got to eat them, but they were not worth the 25 minute wait and rude staff we encountered. We definitely won't be returning there...
