Update: tried the burgers today. My grandmother owned a diner while I was growing up and I have not had a burger as good as hers until now in all my senior years. Pure bliss and delight. Thank you!!!!
Unfortunately, the Washington palate differs from ours greatly, so my husband and I rarely find food we love. Yesterday, we tried a new Puerto Rican place in Fairhaven with such high hopes and when husband suggested this place today, I didn't know if I had the emotional strength to suffer another disappointment, especially food with tri-tip. Luchadora is the exact opposite to our experience yesterday.
No disappointment here, only excitement and gratitude. This experience was sublime. You have no idea what a simple gordito can do for the soul. Born and raised in the land of tri-tip, the memories came flooding back. The food was a fiesta in my mouth. You couldn't have made me happier. Best food I have eaten in B'ham, since last time we ate at Old World.
My husband had the burrito and it was fabulous. A little heat, lots of flavor and perfectly cooked and prepared. Perfect balance of ingredients He said; That woman can cook! Which is high praise as he is a chef.
Excellent value for the authenticity, money and quality. The generous portions were too much for either of us to finish in one sitting.
I am excited and looking forward to trying their other offerings. If you enjoy authentic California cuisine, this will...
Read moreI have to say they make a great smash burger and the street corn is the best in town, but my second time eating here was a bit of a disaster. My first trip, I got some food to go and talked about how good it was for like a week straight. I was super excited to go back. So I ordered and got a half-hour estimate. No prob. I just hung out and had a beer. When it got closer to an hour I decided to check in for an ETA. I wasn't upset and totally understand they were busy, just wanted to know if it was coming up. The people working were kind of frantic and seemed agitated at having to deal with me and someone called out "just give him a refund." I just kind of shrugged and said fine. I was so excited to eat here again that I tipped 20% up front for counter service just to find out that they would rather not have to worry about making my food at all. I can totally understand if I was pushy or rude, but all I wanted was to know if my food was coming up soon. They could have said sorry, 20 more minutes and it would have been totally fine. Anyway, I was super hungry and went down the street for some tacos. Maybe next time they should just stop taking orders for a while until they...
Read moreMy wife's review preceeds mine, and while she is glowing over her Gordian, I had the burrito and I got Frito Pie as well. It has been like 5 years since I've had an actually authentic burrito, we have tasted every South of the border place for 50 miles around and had concluded that we would never again have really good, honest, flavorful Mexican food unless we were to visit California again. This burrito hit on every single note that I look for in a burrito, perfection in a Tortilla! The Frito Pie is just as awesome! Again, everything I expect in a Frito Pie. How am I qualified to judge? I am a retired Chef, with over 40 years of experience in some of the best venues in the world. This Lady can cook! Some have IT and some don't, but she "got it going on " and I will be a regular. Much praise and gratitude sent your way, keep up the great work, we will look forward to eating our way through the menu and the specials. Thanks so much for the...
