Bellingham Coin Shop — Local services in Bellingham

BUYERS BEWARE!!!! I put a bid in on a coin Bellingham Coin Shop (BCS) was selling via auction on eBay without a reserve (ngc gold indian coin with a starting bid of $99). As the end of the auction was approaching, I received an ebay notification that my bid had been suddenly cancelled by BCS without explanation and the listing withdrawn. This was apparently due to BCS selling the coin elsewhere. eBay is clear that if you setup an auction listing vs buy it now, you must honor the rules of their auctions which BCS did not. That means setting a reserve or being willing to accept the highest price if you don't set a reserve - trying to have it both ways is unfair to your customers... who are the only reason you are in business to begin with! I would strongly suggest BCS learn the rules of the platforms they market/sell on PRIOR TO USING those platforms. This will avoid having your customers feel like you are only looking out for your own best interests at their expense.

I am working to report this seller through eBay but wanted to warn other buyers of my experience and to encourage you to shop elsewhere. There are too many honest coin shops out there to waste your time with one that is going to...

I bought some silver here and let me tell you - these folks are great to work with. Whatcom County is lucky to have a shop like this in downtown Bellingham (and also very lucky to have an estate sale business like theirs, as well).

The staff are friendly, and respectful to all, the owner is sharp and on top of his game, and you feel like you're really being taken care of when you do business with them. They're transparent and open about what exactly you're looking at, prices and values, and what it means to purchase something like I did, which, at the end of the day, is a commodity with a constantly-changing value. It's comforting to buy from a business that is worldly and knows so much about the market.

I will be coming back here and giving these folks more business; I will also use them for anything I need to sell. I have seen a couple of their estate sales, also, and have already recommended them to my family and friends who are trying to liquidate their estates - I know they do a fantastic job in that line of business, as well. I stopped in close to closing time with a Gold Sovereign from my father to get evaluated. This was a few days ago so forgive me if the names are wrong, but Alex(?) and Jake(?) were both great people to banter with back and forth while also completing the transaction. Overall, it felt like an excellent introduction to their storefront and I walked away happy!

It's always nice to go to a location like this, or similarly a pawn shop, and have good customer service. Some locations tend to be a bit more stand offish or at the very least, less welcoming. That was not the the case here.
