I don't know if we ordered wrong or maybe it was a bad day, but we were underwhelmed to say the least. We stopped by on a Thursday for a midday brunch.
My wife ordered the classic style breakfast - eggs over medium, bacon, toast etc. The eggs weren't flipped, just cooked with a lid on the pan... OK but unfortunately they were cooked hard - no runny yolk at all. The bacon was so thick and overcooked it was difficult to bite into, and the toast was cold. The potatoes were lovely though - just wish they were seasoned.
I ordered the breakfast chorizo crepe without cheese. It looked great - egg sunny side up in the middle and the ends folded over to form a neat square. Unfortunately the entire top half of the crepe was as crisp as a cracker and concealed just 4 slices of chorizo around the single egg. I expected crumbled... but oh well. As I ate the thing, I realized I needed to pull the whole top part away and set it aside as I couldn't easily eat it. That left me with half a crepe, one egg, and 4 slices of chorizo... not a substantial breakfast to say the least.
Lastly we had a strawberry jam crepe - now this must've been good.... right? Well no... imagine a crepe - overcooked to a state of crispness that frito lay can only dream of - that someone then dropped a scoop of jam into the middle of, then crumpled the crepe around that scoop then tossed on a plate. Those crispy ends protruding proudly off the plate. Meanwhile, the jam acted as the "surprise inside" with us only finding it if we cut in the right spot. Equal distribution is overrated anyways.
We would have shared this with the staff and asked for some correction but in the 15 or 20 minutes between when the plates were dropped off to when we had to flag a server down for our bill, we didn't have a single staff member stop by to ask how the food was.
Again - I can't imagine that all these 5 star reviews are wrong, but we certainly did not experience anything near 5 star with the 3 dishes we ordered or the service we received. Do yourself a favor and head to the bookstore across the street. At their cafe, I was able to save my brunch with a delicious poached egg and bacon open faced Sandwich with hollandaise sauce. They even have a lovely view of the...
Read moreI saw the pics on the website and read the reviews and was REALLY looking forward to this little spot for a good espresso and the asparagus / prosciutto crepe shown in the pics. I arrived around 3:30 and they close at 4. The first thing they told me was that they had shut down the espresso machine because they were 'closing soon' (but offered me a French Press), then they told me they were out of asparagus (but offered me spinach or arugula). I decided to stay anyway and ordered orange, ginger, carrot juice and the baked crepe with arugula, prosciutto and goat cheese. I was not quite thrilled with the juice as it was quite sweet and didn't have a enough ginger taste, but it was fresh which is a bonus. The real disappointment came when I received my baked crepe which was smothered in mozerella and bechemel sauce AND had salmon in it instead of prosciutto. The crepe itself was completely soggy due to all this sauce being baked into it and it just felt heavy vs light and crispy like a crepe should. I specifically ordered the one with goat cheese because it didn't have the heavy topping on it (according to the menu). There was no goat cheese at all. When she asked me how it was, I told her about it having salmon and she took 20% off my bill (a whopping $2.80). I hate complaining so didn't really get into how disappointing the whole thing was. She just seemed so non-chalant shrugging her shoulders saying, well by this time on Sunday night, we're all pretty fried. Based on this experience I won't be back. Perhaps if you go at another not near closing on a Sunday when they have espresso and most of the ingredients on their menu AND they're not too tired to actually execute on a simple order, it would be a better experience. But I do NOT recommend the baked crepe at all. It totally defeats the whole crepe texture / experience. For $14 bucks it was completely...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting the area and this restaurant, and we were excited for a creperie, since they are a less common type of restaurant, and this one was rated so well. While it is true that the ambiance was cozy and the food was well prepared, we were astounded by the poor level of service.
We waited well over an hour for our food, watching many other tables who were seated after us receiving their meals, and only when I asked the server as to the status of our food did the server appear to inquire about the order (~50 minutes after being seated). From there, our server did not interact with us again.
There was no apology, communication, accountability, interaction, nothing, which I found incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional, and all the while that server continued serving and interacting with their other tables (of which there are not many as it is a small restaurant).
Thankfully, another staff member brought out the first part of our order, but it was that individual who let us know our ticket had been lost, and that they were working quickly to prepare the rest of our order. Note that there was no gesture to partially or fully compensate our meal for the oversight or inconvenience, which we felt would have been appropriate in this situation.
While it is completely in our family's nature to be understanding that people may be having a bad day, feeling overwhelmed, etc, the blatant lack of communication and complete disregard for our experience was extremely disappointing for our family. We made the most of our time together, but certainly will not return to this restaurant again, and I truly hope that the staff are trained on how to address kitchen errors and how to respectfully interact with their patrons...
