Ida's Cupcake Cafe — Restaurant in Bend

Very disappointed. We ordered two dozen mini cupcakes for my high tea themed baby shower. I pre-ordered three weeks in advance and selected different frosting types, one being marionberry. I got a call the day of and was informed that marionberry was seasonal and they no longer offered it. I was surprised because when I ordered, I set a specific pick up date and assumed that the options I was given would still be available. Marionberry is my favorite. Super disappointing.

I picked up the cupcakes and they were irritated that I asked for my prepaid tip to be refunded.

The cupcake frosting was sloppily done and did NOT resemble the lovely photos on their website on their website or even in the customer reviews. Either it was a new person or no care or effort was put into decorating.

I went with all vanilla cake for my two dozen and the ones that were eaten were dry. Either old and not freshly baked or overdone.

I would have been better off getting mini cupcakes from Walmart - they would have been more presentable and the cake would have been moist.

Suffice it to say, a few were eaten at the baby shower, I tried a few more the next day and ended up throwing away about a dozen.

I do not recommend this business and I will certainly not return.

While they might have been 3 teeny tiny cupcakes, I was ordering a variety so that all my guests to have something that they liked and Marionberry was the one I was looking forward to the most. I did decide to settle on a marshmallow one, I think.

A quality company that prides itself on quality products will take the time to make their products visually appealing. These were not.

I picked them up at at about 1PM, and did not have time to ask them to be re-frosted and picked up later. They should have been made less sloppily the first time and if the pictures don’t represent the standard product you provide, please add “only high end, intricate orders will look as appealing as the pictures”. We were preparing for a baby shower high tea, so it required hours of baking and preparation. I should have just made my own cupcakes too.

I am genuinely surprised you claim they were freshly baked. Sure fooled me! The German chocolate frosting was also stale and dry.

Tips are a sign of appreciation and good service. Being dissatisfied with the process and the product, a tip was not earned or deserved. This was a good lesson for me though, I will never tip before seeing the product unless I know (for a fact) that the bakery is quality.

After reading about Ida's in Gerry Frank's Oregon Guide book I was excited to try Ida's while passing through Bend. The concept, mix and match cupcakes, is absolutely amazeballs! Seriously, Ida deserves a Nobel prize. I announced I was a first timer and the young lady who helped me was super friendly, helpful, and patient. Unfortunately, the cupcakes themselves were marginal. My first pick was a lemon cake with raspberry frosting. The overly yellow cake tasted like it was made with lemon flavoring vice real fruit or juice. The raspberry frosting lacked any raspberry flavor at all. That being said, if you love fruit loops I recommend this combination. My second pick was a traditional red velvet with cream cheese frosting. I'm not sure what the cake tasted like but it didn't taste like red velvet. The frosting was overly sweet and hard and didn't provide enough of the cream cheese tang you expect in a cream cheese frosting. As an out of towner, I'll be skipping Ida's the next time I find myself in Bend. I set the bar high and these just didn't quite get there for me. Idas has amazing cupcakes. I was very happy with my wedding cake. However, I wasn’t very happy with the communication and Customer service. I was never told that I had to bring back the cake rounds after the wedding. The cakes were delivered so I assumed they would be picking up their supplies. They texted me a few days after my wedding and told me that I needed to bring them back ASAP. The cakes rounds were still at my wedding location. I was thirty minutes away from my wedding location and I’m very thankful that I wasn’t on my honeymoon or else I would not have been able to pick them up and return them. I told Idas that I was frustrated that I wasn’t told to bring them back originally. They did not apologize and honestly they were rather rude to me.
