Easily the worst Indian food I have ever had, and arguably the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. I want to hope that it was an off night for the restaurant, but the quality of food that was served was unacceptable.
The dining room: I arrived for dinner around 6 pm on a Wednesday, and there were roughly 9 tables occupied, which seemed like a decent sign. The layout of the room was very odd, not their fault, but the worst part was the location of the buffet (likely their fault). There are two buffet carts pushed up against the back corner wall, so accessing it was a nightmare, especially when there are 3-5 people looking to serve themselves. Plus, most dishes were labeled with a sticky note, not all of them, so some of the dishes you had no idea what it was. That’s an easy fix.
The vibe in the restaurant was awkward; the manager (I think) was yelling at the employees, there was minimal service throughout the restaurant, and a lack of food being restocked at the buffet.
The food: the dinner buffet was $18 per person. The selection was minimal and clearly not fresh except for some dishes (rice and naan). The curries were crusted over and looked to have been sitting out for a while. I tried a mixture of the curries, starting with the tikka masala, what I think was buttered chicken, some curry with hard-boiled egg, tandoori chicken (legs), and naan. None of them were good. They were either lacking chicken in the dish or had the overwhelming taste of tomato paste and no curry flavor. The tandoori chicken was tough, cold, and flavorless. Also, their “salad yogurt,” which is supposed to be raita, was watered-down yogurt, I think? I don’t even know what it was, but come on… It’s a shame having to write such a negative review, but to be honest, this was awful.
Another peculiar thing was they only offered water and an extremely watered-down tea (what I think was chai tea?). The dinner was odd… Plus, not having a server ask if we wanted to see a menu or order anything from it, which we likely would have, after seeing what the buffet offered, just made for a poor experience.
Anyways, I do plan to return to give it another shot because I want to hope that it was a bad night. But either way, it was an unacceptable experience, and I hope they can do better because Bend needs real...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed by the food and service in this restaurant. I really hope that my experience is not the norm here.
I ordered food for takeout for me and my friends. I called the restaurant, and the staff was unable to answer simple questions directly. When asked, the staff said that any order of entree would include a side of complimentary rice (standard practice in any Indian restaurant). We ordered 5 entrees, and they had a box of rice barely equal to one portion of a side of rice. When asked about getting rice, the gentleman dealing with us was rude and asked one of the servers to add half a cup of rice. He did not listen that we wanted to place orders of sides of rice since they didn’t include them in their order.
I immediately wanted to write a review to warn other patrons of how they treat patrons here, but I felt I should try their food so I could write an honest review. I really hoped the food would be good so I could write only about my experience.
Unfortunately, the restaurant did not include any sauces/sides they’d promised, the food was bland when we asked for spicy with some extra spicy sauce on the side in case their food wasn’t seasoned properly. Here is an honest review of the food we ordered:
Samosa was bland, but the tamarind sauce and mint chutney was quite good. The “sag paneer” had an off putting yellow hues instead of its expected green color. The number of pieces of the paneer was 8 (I had to count since it was so little)
The “goat curry” had 4 pieces of small pieces of goat swimming in an oily pool of bone. Extremely oily
The chicken curry : bland. Nothing wrong with this one but nothing to be proud of either.
Fish curry: the menu said it’s made with “Mahi”, but the curry was made with salmon. Curried salmon tasted like an abomination.
Malai Kofta: nothing made sense with that.
The only reason I added a second star in this review is because the food was warm. I understand how small businesses are affected by reviews, but dealing with patrons rudely, lying about food orders, and skimming off rice (can’t imagine this costs too much) is something that needs to be recorded. I tried this place because it had high ratings. I would hate for someone else to think it’s good and be treated like me when it’s...
Read moreWe are from out of town and were looking for a place to eat lunch. It happened to be that my parents had suggested we try Indian and so I just searched for in Indian food in bend and this was the first location that popped up. I noticed that they had an afternoon close time so I called them to find out what time they were closing as well as what their prices were and if they had their lunch buffet during the week. Most Indian places only have their buffets on weekends. When I was greeted on the phone, it was by a very kind, courteous, respectful person. They answered all my questions and it helped make my Make decision to go there with my family for lunch. When we drove up I was skeptical since I didn't realize this was part of the Shiloh inn, but we had already decided to go there and the prices were very reason. When we walked in, we knew that we hit the jackpot. As soon as you open the doors, you can smell authentic Indian cuisine, the smells and spices of India and we knew we chose a good place to eat. When we walked in as we got to the front counter, we were greeted by one of the employees there. He was the employee who had answered the phone. Again. Very kind and respectable. He seated us at a table And let us know that the lunch buffet was open and we were more than welcome to start eating. We got to know a little bit of his background that the business was new and that he was new to the area and we even got to meet the owner of the establishment. His name was Sam. Needless to say, everyone here was top of the line exactly what we wanted. As far as Indian food service. The choices here are awesome. There was at least a dozen different choices for the buffet as well as dessert and the fact that it's all you can eat naan is amazing. The atmosphere was very authentic and actually seemed very top of the line considering that it was newer Indian restaurant and again part of a shilo inn hotel kind of restaurant and lounge area, the chairs were comfortable. The tables were nicely set up and again the food speaks for itself. It was simply amazing Since we are from out of town, I know that the next time we are in Bend. We will definitely be returning here. If you have not tried this food yet, you are missing out and definitely should...
