Jack Russell Fish Company — Restaurant in Benton

Stopped in tonight with my wife for our anniversary. We hadn’t been there for about 3-4 years. Remembered the food being excellent. Tonight that just wasn’t the case.

We ordered clam strips for an appetizer. It had so much breading, that’s all you could taste was the breading. Also there were many little clam strips that were just breading. Found a piece of breading that was the size of a mushroom but it was just fried breading.

We both ordered the jumbo shrimp with two sides. Her sides were french fries and red beans and rice. My sides were potato salad and coleslaw. Her red beans and rice were very good, but the french fries were undercooked and tasteless. No seasoning whatsoever. The potatoes in the potato salad were overcooked making it on the mushy side. Both the potato salad and the coleslaw were tasteless also. The same goes for the jumbo shrimp. Not much flavor at all and overly breaded.

We were really looking for a great experience, which had been our previous experiences. Not sure what happened tonight. Everyone can have a bad night.

I wanted a place to go on my birthday and it was 8 degrees out side, and a holiday Monday so there were barely any places open. Lo and behold a nice fb group recommended this place, and it was a hit! First of all they had oysters, great size, great taste, great price for mid winter. We had wings as an app and they had a n amazing heat with h crunch and no sogginess Second the crab cakes were handmade and soooo good not too mention the potato salad, that I asked to purchase in a pint to take ho.e 🤣🤣. I wanted to try the whole menu, but we will be back. The only thing that would make this place 6 stars is a homemade bloody with some.crab legs, but I digress. Super delicious and the staff was great. Can't wait to go back in the spring for some live music...

Firstly, I am a picky eater. Mason was the waiter tonight and this was my first time eating here. Mason went above and beyond what anyone would expect. Came to our table at a timely manner. He probed the specials for the night and one stuck out to me - Norwegian caught Salmon. I didn’t have that though. My friend and I had plenty other good food! For two meals, two appetizers (spin dip and 12 wings) and a dessert, it came out to a total of $56. I wanted the full experience and I got it! The cod I got was good, but the smell wasn’t cutting it with me. Still, overall my honest review would grade it 9.6/10. Edit to add: the wings are legit the best around. I don’t typically eat wings either if that tells anyone anything 😊
