I've been at the academy for nearly 9 years now, and I am confident in saying that it is like a second home and a whole other family. The instructors are absolutely incredible, the other students are awesome, and if I were forced to leave I would absolutely cry. I always wanted a big brother, and now in the adults program, I have a whole class full of brothers, including my best friend. The teaching is marvelous and it gives me confidence, knowing I have those I can trust and look to for guidance, and knowing that I have been given the knowledge and ability to defend myself and those I care for. Ever since my very first lesson, the academy has felt like home, and I wouldn't have it any other way. When I first started, I was a wimp who cried over anything and everything. Now, I have the physical and mental strength, ability to make the right decisions, the communication skills, and the ambition I need to tackle life's problems head on. I'm not a person who trusts just anyone, people definately have to earn my trust (I struggle with mental health including anxiety and paranoia) but I have complete trust and confidence in the instructors and my training partners, as they have always been there to answer my questions, talk me though things I didn't understand, and walk me through the problems I thought I couldn't overcome. Taking jiu-jitsu is one of the best decisions I've ever made and I have no regrets. For those who may be considering signing yourself or your child up for the self defense program, I can assure you that your education will be the best you can find. As a new student I instantly knew this was the place for not only me to train, but my family as well. The kids class took my two introverted children and helped with their confidence and self esteem. I saw a change instantly and now I KNOW the teaching philosophy and care given to my kids was a major influence in how far they have come. Adding in the self defense factor, I see confident kids, comfortable being uncomfortable, and ready to handle themselves in tough situations.
