This time we arrived around 6pm on a Saturday but the cafe was completely empty of customers. We were greeted by tired flowers and peeling decor at the entrance. The dirty carpet at the entrance gave off an unpleasant smell. The flooring in the cafe clearly needs to be replaced, near the cash register you can catch the laminate with your soles. I had been to this cafe several times before and hoped to get what they had then. But each time it got worse. There were layers of dust everywhere on the decor in the cafe, even on the T-shirts with the cafe merch lying on sale. Everywhere on all sides everything suggests that the business owners support one side in the armed conflict. And that's great! But when you come with your family and children to have a good time and eat, you start to be distracted by all these reminders and requests to donate at every step. Previously, there were excellent desserts here, and I decided to choose one for myself. But I was horrified by the display case. There were a couple of pieces of tired cake and some stale macaroons. The handles had already fallen off most of the plastic transparent lids. Everything looked very worn out. The dishes were decently scratched and old. After ordering, our children wanted to watch the process of making pancakes. However, the worker lifted the lids of the pans so that none of the children could see anything. The lids did not go down even when all the fillings were in place and the pancakes were fried. Trying to show the children the process, we put bath chairs to the side near the cash register, loudly discussing what the children wanted to see, but the girls pretended that they did not hear. The pancakes were overdried. They cracked and broke on all sides. Is this a pancake house that does not know how to make a pancake? The icing on the cake was that throughout our entire meal, two young workers loudly and indignantly discussed their boss in Ukrainian, knowing full well that we...
Read moreSunday was a gorgeous day, so my lady and I went for a walk in the Metroparks in Berea. I've been in the area pretty frequently, but never took a day to just walk around and take in the sites. Feeling a little peckish after walking around for a bit, we came across La Crepe. I wasn't looking for anything heavy, just a light lunch, so this seemed perfect.
It's a cute little shop with counter service. There is a display with the day's pastries (which all looked delicious), and you can view the staff as they prepare your drinks and food. There is a good amount of seating inside if you feel like sitting in, especially if it's a hot day outside. The cafe is decorated with lots of French inspired decor, which really adds to the ambiance.
We shared the Breakfast Panini, and also an Iced Coffee with a couple Macaroons (Espresso and Tiramisu). The Panini was a gooey, cheesy delight with salty Ham, Spinach, Mozzarella, and a Fried Egg on top. Definitely a fork & knife sandwich. It came with Pickled Vegetables and a side salad of Leafy Greens, Fresh Tomatoes, Shaved Parmesan, and a savory Vinaigrette. For $10, I found it to be a really good deal. The Coffee was balanced and refreshing. The Macaroons were absolutely delicious, they way they melted in your mouth...so good!
La Crepe is a wonderful little place that accents downtown Berea in a lovely way. Just a step away from the park, it's perfect for stopping by after a walk, or for grabbing a bite to take with you and enjoying the scenery. I highly recommend it for a light lunch, and look forward to stopping by again when I am in the area. Be...
Read moreMy husband and I discovered this place in the Summer of 2022 and immediately fell in love with the food and the coffee. We really appreciated the rich coffee flavor you can’t really find anywhere, along with the freshly cooked assortment of crepes. That, plus the nice Paris cafe ambiance, has really distinguished La Crepe from other coffee or breakfast places. I am so sad to say that the level of quality that kept us returning is no longer there.
We returned today, a Sunday, at 1pm to avoid the crowds. There were just a handful of customers there. The ambiance was perfect for conversation with classical music in the background. Our breakfast crepes were delicious, but the coffee was completely watered down regular American coffee. The employees were having a jolly time in the kitchen, which is all well and good, until what sounded like a pile of dishes came crashing down making a huge noise. A friend of the employees that was sitting at the tables clapped. Ok, I guess that can happen. We continued our conversation and then, it happened again. Just huge clanging of dishes, and continued fooling around by the employees with complete disregard for the customers and the cafe ambiance we came to enjoy. I spoke briefly with an employee to let them know that the amount of noise coming from the kitchen ruined our experience and we left without finishing our meal. Au Revoir,...
