Left a review a while back after a poor experience where my friend invited me out to catch up with her and her family for the holidays. They had been having a nice time and being served appropriately during a sports event with absolutely zero issues, but was cut off entirely from any measurable amount of service within 30 mins of my arrival. I am black. My friends are not. I arrived sober and I was given one well whiskey and diet coke upon being seated and never saw my server at my table again. After an hour of no further service, I went to the bar for a drink and was informed at that time the ENTIRE TABLE was cut off because the table was overly intoxicated. The table was 9 people between the ages of 35 and 55 including parents.
Half the people from the table left harsh but true reviews to which the owner replied publically stating that the security footage clearly showed a drunk and rowdy table and that we were lying. We replied suggesting that if there was a drunk and rowdy table, it was perhaps a different table and offered to point out correct table on camera footage. The owner never responded or reached out to rectify the issue.
Since then, it would appear that every review, save one, has been removed, which is not giving an accurate picture of the experience provided by this establishment.
Eat here at your own risk, especially if you are a minority, which is a shame as I am a veteran and would expect to be able to watch a football game in any establishment located in the country I served without issue.
But it's very disturbing that instead of rectifying poor customer experiences, they would rather pay google to remove the poor reviews that result.
Update to address owner reply:
Thank you very much for your reply. Let me see if I can clear a few things up.
No less than 3 people left reviews from that night. Only one remains. I accept that Sud's may not have orchestrated the removal, but the fact remains the reviews are no longer visible (save one) and I believe it's important that the experience is documented for any future prospective diners.
We did, in fact, attempt to contact directly through the number to the GM listed on your website at the time. There was no answer and the voice-mail was full, so it was not possible to leave a message. I did ask to speak with a manager twice while still in the facility as well. Additionally, we did reach out via Facebook. The replies were antagonistic and strongly suggested we were lying. We were told there was video proof which we offered to review with you without success. But, video aside, the only avenues we had to start a dialog were cut off when the response to our concerns stated we were untruthful and the GM was unreachable.
Upon arrival, we had no trouble ordering a drink. If the entire table was cut off when I arrived, why was my friend able to order drinks? And if only certain members were cut off, why was I then prevented from receiving any further service? If the issue was alcohol, why would we have also been prevented from ordering food or water? What better way to ensure a table sobers up before driving home than making sure they eat and drink some water?
I knew serveral guests outside my party that night. Additionally, other friends of ours arrived after we did, and in fear of not receiving service, chose to sit at the bar. They, along with other friends of ours at the bar, reported things they HEARD the staff say. I did not arrive at my conclusion of descrimination without cause. At worst, there was a race issue. At best, there was a professionalism issue as no guests should have been able to hear that.
Lastly, it may seem like a long time ago to you, but descrimination is serious and has no expiration date. Continuing to advocate against it is a far cry from "slanderous and ridiculous." But, you seem eager to resolve the situation - as I have been since it occured. I look forward to an email from you and will happily take down this review once the concern has...
Read moreLast night was my first time ever visiting Suds Maguire's, and it was the single worst instance of customer service I've ever had in any restaurant or bar; appalling to the point of almost being a farce.
My friend and I came during the early part of the Ohio State game last night and sat down at a table that already had 7. At this point, I can get all of the positives about my experience out of the way in a single sentence. The place was clean and well-lit, and within about a minute or two a server came to take our drink order. A few minutes later, she came back. I went to drink it and realized she got my order wrong. I have worked retail for 20 years and have, myself, been a tipped employee for the last 6 and change, so I get how hectic things can be (and again, during an Ohio State game no less) and although I was annoyed, I could let that slide. A few minutes later, she asked if we were doing all right. I opted not to complain, and then she left.
For the next 3 hours, she never spoke to me again. Not a single word, not even once, and the bar cleared out quite a bit around halftime. I think it was probably close to an hour before she came back to our table at all, and as I said before, she never once checked on me. However, at some point between about an hour and two hours since I got there, it came to my attention that two women at our table were cut off, supposedly for bloodshot eyes and not being able to sit straight. I've known these two women for almost 20 years. They were also there with their middle-aged parents. They were not drunk, let alone to a point of needing to be cut off. This was even more curious due to the fact that, as I said before, it's not like the server came around to check on us.
After about two hours, my friend (who also had only the single drink and hadn't been even spoken to since) asked me to get her a drink. Figuring I'd have no such luck sitting at my table, I went up to the bar. The bartender came over to ask what I wanted. Our server - or perhaps more accurately, the server who was assigned to our table - recognized me and spoke up, saying that I was all right to have another drink. She had not checked up on me for about two hours at that point, so for all she knew I could have been downing other people's drinks. Nonetheless, I was served the drink (for which I still tipped), and went back to the table. According to my friend, that drink order was also wrong, but at this point it felt like nothing really mattered.
We stayed for about another hour. At some point, I wanted water, only to realize that we did not have enough glasses at our table for our entire party of 9. Since our server wasn't coming by, assuming I didn't want to try my chances at the bar again, my options were to either drink straight out of the pitcher, or steal a glass from another table. I opted for the latter. I was told, although I don't know for sure, that at some point before we left, our entire table was cut off. At that point, I had to laugh, as it wasn't like we were being served anyway.
I'm not going to pretend like I have some crazy amount of influence or anything. It was my first time ever being there. But as I said before, last night was the absolute worst service I've ever had, and that's not something I say lightly. I don't know why anyone would think not checking up on a customer for literally three hours is okay in any...
Read moreLet me start by saying I don't not like to be the one leaving bad reviews on local restaurants, and have been a frequent customer of Sud's for going on 2 years, driving all the way from parma, at least 3 times a month, because I enjoy the place.
But the way I was treat by our waitress Sam was extremely disrespectful, and extremely embarrassing for myself and our party (this isn't the first time, this is just the worst time) I attempted to ordered a down east cider, to switch it up from my usual pitcher of Miller light. Our waitress then asked for my ID (in which I fully understand asking and don't have a problem providing, I'm 24 happens often) but I didn't have it on me left it in my car, so I said I'll be back, and when I can back in and presented into too Sam she said it was a fake and wouldn't accept it, she said it was because of it lacking "shiny" film on the card (note the card is almost 6 years old) I told her it's my real ID, and we then presented her with 3 other IDs from the party and asked us to show us said shiny film, and she could fail to show us on any card, and then proceed to get rather loud and combative causing neighboring tables to look making us quite embarrassed... so we decided to take our money else where.
This interaction is also wierd, because I've always gotten beer at this establishment and have been served beer multiple times by sam, but for some reason today is a problem.
Would love to speak with owner or manager, but when called Sam answered as a manager, and would like to speak to someone else. And based on other reviews seems I'm not the only one unhappy with service from sam
Love suds, but definitely an experience that will probably end my appearance...
