I’ve been wanting to dine in at Farmhouse and made a same day reservation on OpenTable. When I arrived, I found out half of my party would be 30 min late. I asked if they wanted us to come back in 30 min, and our server was nice and said we can get seated since they weren’t busy yet. We got a table downstairs since they told us upstairs is a lot louder/noisier. I enjoyed being able to hear the Thai pop songs downstairs. Downstairs was a bit chilly so bring a jacket in the evening. They kept the doors behind us closed until they had to access the diners on the patio. Also note there is one elevator from street level to the level where we ate (bar and outdoor patio level), and then there’s a different elevator from that level to the top level.

We started with a Pilsner and Lod Chong drinks. Two servers said Lod Chong was their favorite; while I liked the pandan flavor I found the drink too sweet, which I mentioned to them, but they didn’t ask if I wanted it remade. When the food came, the sweet drink helped wash down some of the spicy flavors!

We liked the branzino and kao soi. The branzino is kept heated so it stayed warm. Maybe because we took photos, the roti in the larb taco (Cinco de Mayo special) and the hatyai fried chicken dish (as well as the fried chicken itself) weren’t hot when I ate them. I did like the larb, but wouldn’t order the fried chicken again.

The green curry says medium on the menu, and our server warned us that it has a kick, but it was the spiciest dish out of the ones we ordered. I liked the eggplant pieces served on top so they weren’t as spicy because they didn’t soak up the flavor; I ate some of the eggplant with the roti’s potato yellow dipping curry.

Our server came by multiple times to check on us and see if we needed anything. They didn’t top off our cups of water though until I asked when my cup was empty.

The owner Kasem brought over all their hot sauces, but we didn’t try them until he suggested we try their house spicy sauce (made with sambal, shrimp paste, and mungbean) to understand what regular spicy is (after I asked him what’s really spicy). I tasted a little, and it’s good but make sure you have water! He said the ā€œmedium-spicyā€ green curry uses some of that sauce.

He was nice to talk to and after we paid, he said he’ll give us dessert on the house and would appreciate it if we leave them feedback on Google. I planned to leave a review anyway whether or not there’s free ice cream, but was pleasantly surprised they gave our table of four not one but four coconut ice cream granitas. The desserts were light and tasty, and we enjoyed them. Although the meal was pricey (almost $70pp including drinks, tax and tip), it was a splurge for a special occasion. We got the $40 entrees, but they do have curry and noodle items priced around $18. Thanks, Farmhouse, for the...

If you’re looking for a Thai restaurant that brings both authentic flavors and a modern, lively atmosphere, Farmhouse Thai is a top pick. This spot is a feast for the senses—from the bold, aromatic dishes to the beautifully decorated space that blends traditional Thai aesthetics with a contemporary, fun vibe.

Food & Drinks

The menu at Farmhouse Thai is packed with exciting options, balancing classic Thai dishes with creative interpretations. The Hat Yai Fried Chicken is a standout—crispy, flavorful, and served with a side of sticky rice and a rich yellow curry sauce. The Khao Soi is another must-try, offering a perfect mix of creamy coconut curry, tender meat, and crunchy noodles on top.

For appetizers, the Angel Wings are a crowd favorite—stuffed with a delicious mix of minced chicken, glass noodles, and Thai herbs, then deep-fried to golden perfection. If you’re a fan of spice, the Papaya Salad delivers just the right kick with fresh, tangy, and slightly fiery flavors.

Drinks-wise, their Thai iced tea is perfectly balanced—not too sweet, just the right creaminess. They also have unique cocktails with Thai-inspired twists, like the Tom Yum Martini, which packs a citrusy and slightly spicy punch.

Ambiance & Service

One of the things that makes Farmhouse Thai special is its atmosphere. The restaurant is colorful, playful, and full of character, from the rattan lamps to the quirky decorations that make every corner Instagram-worthy. It can get busy, especially during peak hours, but the energy adds to the experience.

Service is friendly and efficient, though it can be a bit slow when the restaurant is packed. However, the staff is always welcoming and happy to recommend dishes if you’re unsure what to order.

Overall Verdict

Whether you’re a Thai food enthusiast or just looking for a great spot to enjoy a flavorful, well-executed meal, Farmhouse Thai won’t disappoint. The food is consistently great, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere makes it a fun place to dine. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait during peak hours—it’s a popular spot for a reason.

⭐ Rating: 9/10 āœ… Must-try: Hat Yai Fried Chicken, Khao Soi, Angel Wings šŸ’° Price: Moderate ($$) šŸŽ Vibe: Lively, fun, and stylish

For us, maybe not quite as awesome as everyone screams. We were here on a Saturday night. It was really cold out, yet they were jammed packed both inside and outside (outside has heaters). Just for logistics, the restaurant is located on the corner and you have to walk up a couple levels of stairs, although they do have handicap lift if needed. The restaurant itself is also two stories, so be prepared to do your steps. We waited probably 30 mins before we were offered a table just inside the front door. Unfortunately the door remained wide open and that cold breeze made it quite uncomfortable. Our servers were many throughout the evening, and all very nice. Insides are modern and fun, with pink-ish lighting and some interesting decor. On to the food. . . We started with the Tom Yum soup. This was good and the chicken and veggies all fresh. For me, the ladle was too large for the narrow trough the soup was in as the center of what it was served in has a stack with the sterno below to keep it hot. Once you get the first couple ladles of soup out, you can't get the ladle deep enough in the trough to get more out... We were about half finished with our soup, when the rest of the dishes including our appetizer dish and main courses, all came out at the same time. Let me say, that for a compact 2-top table, it became an instant 'cluster FK' as there were waaaaay too many plates that it just didn't fit. This was really poor delivery on the part of the servers. They should know the order and timing for delivering the dishes. Dishes were crammed on top of each other and I am surprised nothing fell off the table. We somehow managed to negotiate our meals. The food was OK, but nothing to write home or rave about, in our opinion. And, this is not an inexpensive place to dine. Be sure to check out their menu for the pricing prior to...

@thaifarmhouse just opened a new location in Berkeley!! I came to their grand opening on Shattuck Ave and it was a party. They had an entire spread highlighting of some their Thai cuisine, and we even tried grasshopper which was so crunchy and oddly delicious, along with the silk worm, which I was still questioning if I liked it or not. They also had a plethora of seafood and drinks that were curated so well. The Filipino in me could not resist the pandan one. It really helps to balance out their spicy noodles. The most entertaining part of the night was definitely the Thai performances upstairs. They were so talented and even invited some of the audience to come and dance with them. Don’t judge me on my dance skills. We witnessed the ribbon cutting and just overall had a great time with the Absolut Vodka ice fountain, chizelled by Devin King of @chiselitice and the entire space transformed from Farmhouse Kitchen Thai Cuisine to Farmhouse Club. They know how to have a great time. High energy, good food, and the most friendly staf. Wow, just wow. @thaifarmhouse is now located in Berkeley and they brought the culture and the spice. Their performers danced and sang beautifully and I was very blessed to have witnessed it. The food was delicious but what got me the most excited was the silk worm and grasshopper/crickets. Even though I’ve visited Thailand I haven’t had the chance to try them there. So glad I got to try them here with @andreweatsinsf , that’ll be another video šŸ›šŸ¦— 🤤. Hope y’all check them out, byee. šŸ‡¹šŸ‡ @thaifarmhouse šŸ“ 1549 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94709
