Elaine's Bagels — Restaurant in Berkley

Edit: I am adding some stars because of Katie. She reached out and even provided me with some complimentary bagels. Despite a couple negative experiences (before those I had MANY positive experiences here), I will be back because of this employee. It shows that they still care and that’s worth another visit. Thank you to Elaine’s for reaching out and making it right.

Update: Nothing has changed, except the quality of the bagels aren’t as good. The same girl from my original review is still the face of the restaurant every morning. No issues in these reviews have been addressed. Such a shame what this business has come to be.

Original: Love the bagels, I have my entire life. This would be a 5 star review if the young woman who works weekday mornings wasn’t there. I come here at least twice a week. She is ALWAYS on her phone, today she had a conversation my entire visit. She literally didn’t say a word to me, I told her my order over her conversation and the same thing at the register. I’ve also witnessed this same girl touch my bagel, then cash, then someone else’s bagel, then cash, then mine off the toaster WEARING THE SAME GLOVES. I don't like leaving negative reviews but after going there multiple times and having same experience I decided to share. The woman who works there in the morning is incredibly rude. She has been on her cell phone EVERY time I've gone and loudly continues her conversation, even while she's taking your order (and she is not hesitant to show how annoyed she is that her conversation was interrupted) the reason this place gets two stars is because their bagels 🥯 really are amazing. No complaints about the actual bagels themselves. On a side note: They raised their prices and in my opinion went way overboard, a small increase for inflation is a reasonable but they went beyond that. I wouldn't even mention that part as the bagels really are good but why am I paying this much for bagels and the woman can't even be bothered to get...

Elaine’s Bagel has a retail division that sells its bagel with my local Rivertown Meijer. On 2/8/25 they were in store giving out samples. The sample was delicious and accrual real dense bagel. I asked the representative if they sold sesame bagels. She stated that she did not have any but could bring some to my store on 2/9/25. She stated she could drop them off at 6am. I got up early on 2/9/25 to pick up the packages she left for me and the items requested were not there. I asked the bakery employee if the vendor showed and she confirmed she did not. Still disappointed I purchased a pack of plain bagels for my wife’s salmon and lox. I get the bagels home and the had mold on them. The sell date was 2/10/25. So I will go back to the store to return them....
