If you read nothing else, be aware that they dangerously and recklessly overserve alcohol to obviously intoxicated patrons.
My fiancée and I attended the Blackthorn set on the evening of Saturday, April 20th, 2024. The star in this review goes to the band – the venue deserves none. Upon being greeted and taken to seating, we were surprised and disappointed to find ourselves jammed at the end of a long family-style table. Things only got worse when our tablemates arrived. There was a group of about eight who were seated with us, very loud and noticeably intoxicated already upon their arrival. My fiancée had a drink spilled all over her by the woman seated beside her. One patron was especially out of control, and he was seated next to me and across from my fiancée. By the end of the dinner course, he was so drunk that he was falling over himself, and eventually decided to leave early and departed with a few others from the group. Repeated high-value curse words abounded well into the music set, and I legitimately worried for my fiancée’s and my safety. Needless to say, this detracted in a great way from our enjoyment of the show. The bass player even at one point told this group to tone it down. Through it all, the server continued to serve this group several alcoholic beverages. Meanwhile, my fiancée and I (who ordered sodas), had to wait an excessive amount of time for just a single refill, while the server was more concerned with filling expensive bar drinks to pad her tip.
The food itself was bland and dry, and the Reubens were inconsistently prepared (one of us got a single piece of meat while the other’s was piled high with meat). The menu was very limited for the set, and the price of every item was jacked up by at least $3 compared with the normal prices; we know because we reviewed the menu in the parking lot before going inside. There is really nothing Irish at all about this food or ambiance. The food prices are laughable for what you get.
The surrounding community should know of this establishment’s negligent actions on Saturday night. I’m sure the local authorities would be interested to know as well. Such a poignant and sad coincidence that this was the same day of the fatal tragedy in Monroe County that saw a woman drive through a building, killing two young children, after being overserved at a nearby tavern.
Do better O’Mara’s. This was my first and last time patronizing this place, but for my fiancee’s part you lost a longtime customer. Things have apparently gone downhill in a major way in...
Read moreVery much enjoy going to O'Mara's to see our favorite Irish Band, but last night turned into dinner theater.
The Good: The music was terrific as always The food that we ate was great Our waitress was nice
The Bad: Ownership knew they'd be playing to an absolutely full house as all the tables were advanced reservations, but the kitchen and bar were not properly stocked. Ordering took forever as a result as the waitress had to keep coming back from the kitchen to have us re-order something else. Two people in our party had to change their order 3 times. Drinks weren't much better. They ran out of Tito's and other ingredients. The mens room was pretty filthy even before the band took the stage. They had a fan blowing on the floor but it didn't look like they'd mopped it first. Parts of the ceiling in the dinning area were clearly experiencing water damage from a faulty roof and possibly dripping water down onto the flooring/people/wait staff below. They assigned a waitress to our party of 20, I think, on her first day of work. She didn't have a good process in place for taking our orders, so poor training and poor table assignment choice. At one point she was MIA for about 45 minutes when people were wanting to pay the bill.
The Ugly: -One person in our party was served a Guinness in a broken pint glass
-One person was served mashed potatoes that actually looked like they had been eaten from.
-The prices in their POS system do not match the prices on the menu for entrees. They were trying to charge $30 for my $26 entree (TOURNEDOS OF SHRIMP AND MADIERA), and $22.50 for my wife's $18 (DOUBLE CUT PORKCHOP). I confirmed that most of the entree prices on other party members bill was also wrong. I confirmed with the waitress that gratuity had not already been added and she fixed the bill indicating that it was a bug in the billing system. The explanation didn't sit well with me since it happened to everyone at our table, and presumably those that had already paid and left. This last point is the reason I decided to write a review.
Having said all this, we had a good experience there in the spring of 2019 and I have every intention of going back the next time Blackthorn is playing. We'll give them another shot. When we do I'll revise this review...
