Benny's Tacos — Restaurant in Berthoud

This falls under the category of "buyer be careful when ordering from online menu." I have only been to Benny's once a few years ago and was disappointed so did not return, until now on a passing whim. I ordered to go the #19 combo at $12.99 to find out it's "really" $16.99" on the "real" menu. Apparently, when you go to the website you might encounter other people's posts containing a menu (which in this case proved to be wrong). I chalked it up to my ignorance, and suggested that perhaps staff could do something about the confusion of bogus menus online, or post a disclaimer or something like that. There was no effort to do any of those things, and I was told it was "Google's responsibility." They cannot alter other people's posts, I guess. In addition, the take out order was mediocre with miniscule sides of rice and beans. I might give it another chance but in-restaurant rather than take out. Unfortunately, Berthoud has so few really good options, it's disappointing to strike...

2022: Not too shabby; didn’t necessarily love the food or service here, but also didn’t have any reason to hate the establishment. We had drinks to sip on and grabbed takeout, but the long wait for our small three-person order was unexpected. Our overall experience and the quality of the food was not worth the price compared to the other Mexican restaurants in town.

2023 update: They have absolutely stepped up their game and made major improvements to the quality of food being prepared. Their grilled chicken tacos were unbelievably delicious and extremely filling. A friend had the carne asada tacos and spoke very highly about them as well. Each ingredient tasted fresh, well cooked, and also happened to be perfectly combined in a street taco form. The onions, cilantro, avocado, side of limes, and salsa all complimented the meat flawlessly while laying on a bed of incredible corn tortillas. They added an extra $3 to the tip amount. I didn't approve the change and it was done without my knowledge. It seems they took advantage when there was a problem with the credit card system. I kept a copy of the receipt and later noticed the discrepancy. Disappointing behavior.

Despite any of the above, I like the street tacos. I have had the carne asada and barbacoa. They are both good. The guacamole is good. The regular salsa is fine, nothing special. The hot salsa is lackluster flavor wise and nowhere near as hot as the man at the counter suggested. He was adamant it was far too hot for me and it certainly wasn't (he came off rather rude).
