Baja Beach House Grill — Restaurant in Bethany Beach

By a happy coincidence Happy Hour runs from 3-5pm, and we entered at 2:50pm. It was a no-brainer to wait to order until the Street Taco Special kicked in: 3 chicken or steak for $9 vs their normal price($16.95 and $19.95 respectively.) What can I tell you, they were good. Really tasty, with fresh ingredients rounded out by the red and verde typical salsas, and an unusual pineapple habanero.

With 7 of us we were a larger size family group and were about to move around some tables to sit together on the side patio since we don’t see each other much and want to take advantage of the family togetherness on a beach vacation. When our food trays were brought outside we were invited to move to the rear section, a garden-style patio with picnic tables for the attached brewery that was not yet open for business. It was the ideal setting, and very nice of the staff to suggest that.

For the kids, this was an early dinner, and for the adults it was a very late lunch. I will definitely remember these half-priced happy hour tacos the next time...

As we all know, 2020 has been a tough year. However, one of the few things that kept me looking ahead was a summer trip to Bethany. One of the highlights of this trip is a nice happy hour at Baja Beach House Grill. In past tense - the ingredients were high quality and the happy hour prices were great. I was incredibly disappointed to arrive at Baja and find out that not only was happy hour CANCELED, but they also took away my favorite meal - the taco salad. Upon expressing my dissatisfaction, the staff showed absolute indifference. Despite my initial disappointment, I decided to move along and get the substitution that was offered - burrito bowl/taco salad. I got my usual order - taco salad (sans taco shell), with grilled shrimp, brown rice, corn, salsa, sour cream and black beans. And wow, was I disappointed again! Does this restaurant use ANY seasoning?? The answer is no. The ingredients were subpar and bland. Unflavorful and disappointing. So upsetting that a Bethany staple has followed the trend of...

The food was absolutely delicious - I came in with a group of four on a Sunday, and we were delighted by the food and service/staff. We had deep fried cod tacos, ahi tuna tacos, chips with queso, and a salad (vegetarian friendly option). The portions were filling, the ahi tuna was perfectly medium rare and tasted amazing, the fried cod was perfectly crisp, the tacos were flavorful, the greens/toppings were all fresh, and everything was just delicious. We came with our dog and were able to comfortably sit outdoors.

I also want to mention how kind the owners/staff are! I came from a city 2 hours away, and realized that I had left my wallet in the bathroom. I was so fortunate that the owners were so kind - Michelle had saved it for safekeeping and even reported the lost wallet to the police. When I called the next day, she offered to send it to me.

I have never been to a food spot with just great quality food and people all around. I'm surely coming back for a visit when my husband and I return...
