Bethany Beach Books — Local services in Bethany Beach

We went here on a rainy day during our vacation with our two and four year old boys. We read books with them in the children's section and perused the store, which was empty save for one other family with a young child. The boys were fully supervised the entire time and did not disturb any of the merchandise. My husband and sons were watching the rain as I walked to the desk to purchase our books, when the clerk critically looked at my children and recommended that we leave and visit the library instead. I was shocked and remarked that our children had been well behaved, quiet, and supervised the entire time during our visit. She agreed, but complained that they were standing at the windows and climbing into the chairs. I replied that they were reading books in the chairs with us, and were watching the rain through the windows, not bothering anyone or any merchandise. She argued that there were cords near the windows and asked us again to leave. I was, and am still, completely shocked. Our children didn't bother any merchandise, disturb any customers, were completely supervised, and we were planning to purchase some books. Instead of asking us to not sit near the window, we were asked to leave. Just horrible customer service. I would not recommend this store to any one, especially families...

I'm not exaggerating when I say that visiting Bethany Beach Books was one of the highlights of our trip to Bethany Beach! The selection was incredible. One instantly realizes that the staff truly cares. From the helpful synopsis cards highlighting some of the staff's picks, to their excellent personalized recommendations, you are sure to leave with your next fantastic read! One such staff member recommended Part-time Mermaid when I said I was looking for a beach/ocean themed book for my 4-yr-old to mark her first trip to the shore. It was PERFECT. My daughter absolutely loved it! (I think the staff member may have been named Carrie-Ann? Regardless-- thank you!) And after reading one of the synopsis cards, I walked away with The Lost Apothecary. It made for a great, fast beach read! I haven't read for pleasure in such a long time, but this made for such a welcomed return! Definitely check out Bethany Beach Books on your next trip; you won't be disappointed! Amazon & Big Box will NEVER be able to offer even a sliver of the quality service you will...

One of my favorite book stores at the beach! I love taking a walk down the boardwalk and stopping by Bethany Beach Books. There’s a huge selection with clear sections including top sellers/charts, staff picks, a Taylor Swift area, local MD reads and all of the typical genres of books for adults, YA & children. They have lots of options for book merch including bookmarks, calendars, bags and more. When I went for St. Patrick’s Day weekend, if you wanted a surprise, you could choose a “Feeling Lucky?” book that gave a little bit of information but was wrapped, so it was essentially a blind date with a book! They also now have “The Book Drop”, a monthly subscription service grab bag! There’s signed books available and they often do author signing events. So many options for books, goodies & events - sign up for their email list...
