I know this place has been open for a while, but this was our first opportunity to try it out. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and it was still early so all but one of the outdoor tables were empty - no brainer there! Especially since the music indoors was so loud that we would have had to scream at each other to be heard. (why do places think that music has to be so loud????)
While they basically serve only tacos, there are many creative ways you can slice and dice them to your liking. They have some premade choices, if - like us - this is your first visit. If you are a veteran, then you can build your own from their combinations menu and they offer all kinds of interesting combinations. Since this was our first visit, we relied on ouir server (Richard) to guide us. He recommended that we order two tacos each as a good sized lunch portion and range across the menu. We listened to him, and were glad that we did.
Each taco runs around $5. With two people, a filling lunch is $10 per person. If you add margaritas ($8) and chips and salsa or dips, you can spend more, but we left very full and satisfied with two tacos a piece.
The pictures show you have the tacos come on plastic baskets. We got one plastic fork to share - luckily we like each other! :-) However, it was not really needed. One really neat idea they had - which I am SOOO stealing! - is to wrap a crunchy taco shell in a soft flour taco. That way you get the fun crunch of the taco shell without making the huge mess as fillings go flying all over the place! Great idea!
The indoor space was decorated in bizarre graphics which carry through to the restroom. I could take them or leave them. As I stated above, we sat outside in the sun, where the cool breeze made for a perfect setting and did not have to deal with the horrible overpumped loud music. That music is one of the two reasons for giving this place a four star review. The other, is that aside from the tacos, you do not have any other options. So, if you want something else, go elsewhere. I love their creativity and can see how I would definitely enjoy building all kinds of fun combinations, but how many times am I really in the mood...
Read moreThis location deserves ZERO star! The manager is very unprofessional and RUDE! To begin with: the manager seemed very upset when we told him that we need a table for 10 people outside when there were many tables available! Our waitress, COURTNEY E. was AWFULLY RUDE, treated me with prejudice disrespectfully because some customers complained to her that our table was being loud! COURTNEY E. AND HER MANAGER SIDED WITH THE COMPLAINTS BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL WHITE LIKE THEM! My whole table was being loud but Courtney E. and her manager PICKED ONLY ON ME BCS I AM NOT WHITE, their prejudice was notorious and even my colleagues acknowledged that! This is a bar, we drink alcohol and we were celebrating birthdays! What do you expect? People being quiet? Guess what? Yuppie South Hills people: dont bring kids to a bar where they serve alcohol! Courtney E. was picking on me so bad that SHE was listening to my conversation with my colleague when I was just trying to understand why she had to treat me like that then Courtney ABRUPTLY INTERRUPTED ME tried to shut me up! Are you serious? Extremely NEBBY, unappropriated and unprofessional! Her manager, horrible manager by the way, I wish I knew his name, was so unprofessional, he tried to intimidate me saying that I had to leave the restaurant just because I was standing up for myself and I wasn’t accepting to be mistreated like that, all I had was contundente argument! Thats all! No need for this MISTREATMENT ! Courtney shouldn’t serve tables! She needs to HAVE BETTER MANNERS! So does her manager because he clearly has prejudice against immigrants! I was the one who chose this location to celebrate with my colleagues tonight, everyone was going to BJ’s across the mall, guess what? We would be better served and treated with decency at BJs for sure! I didn’t deserve to be humiliated like that! Pathetic Courtney! Go do something else Courtney and mister unprofessional manager! You both are Disqualified to be in the...
Read moreThere's no way the meat is "fresh". If it was fresh then it should be at the very least warm. The meat was ice cold so I sent it back. When the new tacos came back, it was barely lukewarm. I guarantee if they're serving their meat cold like that and if they were inspected they would be shut down immediately. "Fresh" does not mean freshly made in the morning and stored in the fridge. Shame on management for not correcting it after several reviews stating the exact same thing. And shame on the cooks for serving it that way. apparently they don't care if they get people sick. No self-respecting cook would serve food like that. $5 plus dollars a taco for food poisoning is not a good deal. Now I'll wait for managements cut and paste response saying that it is fresh, or sorry if we didn't meet your expectations, and my favorite on here..."Bummer". It really shows how bad management is if they can't address people personally on their reviews.
Update Thank you Scott. I can appreciate a response that wasn't cut and paste. However, I don't appreciate the lame excuse that was given for why proteins are refrigerator cold when served. I've worked in every position in restaurant kitchens for years. Serving "ice" cold toppings does not turn hot protein to refrigerator cold. If it did that means that the food sat for more than 10 minutes and the lettuce would have been wilted and mushy. It wasn't. Instead of excuses you should own up to it and fix the problem. I'm 99% sure the cooks are using the hot well to heat their products straight from the fridge in the morning prep. That's the worst way to heat up proteins because it keeps it in the danger zone for foodborne illnesses before the proteins get to a safe temperature. Heat up your meat fast and keep it at a safe temp to serve. I'm not looking for a free meal. I'm hoping nobody else gets food poisoning because of poor training or the cook's malfeasance or...
