July 15th I could not believe how incredibly rude the waitress was to us. I know her name but won't do that to her publicly- she knows who she is.
First, when we were being seated, we told her we were expecting 6 total and she repeated it back as if she were in disbelief and mumbled, "great". The restaurant was moderate to low capacity at the time, so it couldn't have been because it was so busy that she didn't want us. She took us to our table and slammed the menus and walked away without saying a word. I asked my husband if maybe we should ask for someone else and he said we should but don't because that might make it even more weird.
The entire time she served us with a scowl. When she was taking our order she kept scoffing, tapping her foot, and shaking her head as if she couldn't believe she had to serve us. Mad she was going to have to split the bill up two ways. I was shocked, I mean I have received bad service before but this was the absolute worst ever- I didn't understand why she was so angry. I tried really hard not to say anything thinking maybe she was just having a bad day and tried to be understanding- so I held my tongue.
My dad who is literally the sweetest person you could ever know is a little hard of hearing and she talked to him like he was stupid almost yelling at him sarcastically when he asked her to repeat her question. He apologized and asked her to repeat just one more time and she slammed her notebook on the table in front of him and talked to him like he was stupid again. I sat there in disbelief. My 8 year old daughter was the icing on the cake, though, she ordered a coney dog and when she didn't know the difference between detroit and chicago style chili, the waitress became very upset and rude with my kid and made her feel stupid and told her to hurry up and make up her mind, so then I finally spoke up and all I did was asked her if she was okay. She started bawling uncontrollably and told me she didn't want to be there today because she has a bad headache. I told her I understand because I get migraines too and I offered her an ibuprofen. She declined and walked away and said nothing else without finishing taking our order. She came back with two types of chili for my daughter to decide between, and that was nice, but definitely not in the way she went about it- and she made my daughter feel really bad to the point my daughter just sat with her head down. She finished taking our order and eventually brought out our food. She brought no refills the entire time. We avoided asking for anything else that we needed- it was very awkward and felt like everything was on edge the whole time. I watched her as she was equally rude with everyone else including elderly customers and her co-workers. I watched her behind her server station get frustrated with the blender and shake the whole machine and slam it down until a coworker stepped in and finished blending whatever it was. This was the only time I am going to get to see my parents for several months, and I regret bringing them here. I rarely have anything bad to say in any of my reviews- you can look at my review history.
I understand having a headache, but there's absolutely no reason to treat anyone like that. As I mentioned, I get migraines and I can understand how miserable they can make you, if I were her I would have stayed home. I still left the girl a decent tip hoping it would make her more bearable for the next guest.
As management, you should pay attention to your staff's behavior. If someone is feeling that bad at work to the point that customers are being treated poorly and elderly people and kids are being snapped at, you should offer them to go home to get some rest. There were more than enough staff there to handle the day. That should have not...
Read moreIf you have dietary restrictions or food allergies, I suggest you don't eat here. Read on for details.
I ordered the spinach feta skillet (skillet potatoes, feta, tomato, onion, spinach, and eggs are the listed ingredients) and when the dish came, I saw a piece of ham on the side of the skillet that was not touching the food. As someone who doesn't eat red meat, I was a little upset but after checking under my over easy eggs, through the skillet bits to the best of my ability, I didn't see any meat in the dish.
Unfortunately, I got maybe halfway through my meal and found a piece of sausage in the middle. At that point I was feeling pretty awful about it and couldn't eat the rest.
We told the waitress that I found two pieces of meat with my vegetarian meal. She said something about how it must have found its way in because they dump ingredients into the skillet but she would ask the manager.
The waitress returns, saying the manager said I can have 15% off my meal or they can remake it and repeats that it happened because of the way they prepare their meals. The manager does not bother to come to our table.
I'm peeved by this, of course, but I decide to give them a second chance and take the remade meal and ask that they be careful. She says they will separate the ingredients on plates and we let her know it has to be to go, as everyone I was eating with are now done with their meals. She says okay and apologizes a few times in passing about the skillet.
So I get my remade meal home and when I go to eat it, I find a piece of mushroom in it this time. As someone who cannot eat mushrooms due to allergies, I'm very angry now.
I did not bother calling them about it. I do not live in the area of Birch Run and given that they gave me the excuse that the meat just dropped in the first time, I doubt they would feel any more remorseful this time around.
Perhaps they thought the first time I was complaining only to get a free meal. Perhaps they thought if I truly didn't eat meat, I would have said something while I ordered. If they thought either, they were wrong, I just happen to think that ppl shouldn't have to announce their food restrictions in order to have the meal they chose on the menu cooked and served with only the ingredients that were listed.
In addition, given that the second time they were instructed to be "careful", and apparently separated the ingredients out, and STILL made a mistake shows that this location has a problem with properly managing their ingredients for the safety of those of us with restrictions and allergies.
So if you have to be careful with what you eat, don't bother with this location, especially if you expect a place to at least admit their mistake and take responsibility for it, because the Birch Run Leo's will not...
Read moreMy first stop at any Leo’ Coney Island was this location (Birch Run) on a combination business/“sibling reunion” trip I was doing from the Greater Green Bay Area. From outside in the lot to inside to our booth, this place was good old fashion CLEAN & SPOTLESS. Very comfortable & inviting atmosphere. Food was very good. Way larger portions than I had anticipated. My hash browns were perfect, waffle was a bit done-plus, but I like mine that way. Bacon was spot on! Now, enough basic info - on to the pièce de résistance! And it wasn’t a menue item - it was STAFF! Where do we start?! NY WAS A TOTAL ROCK STAR OMG, What a blast! What a sense of humor! What a fast, on-the-fly wit! Talk about the ability to take it, yet fire it back! Haven't had that much fun in a public establishment since we trashed the Hilton with Jagger & The Boys back in ‘68! Seriously, though - our entire time there, Ny was like having a great friend dropping by the table multiple times. We truly looked forward to each of Ny’s next stop-bys (or from my family’s point of view, for the next time Ny was going to put me in my place - humor wise!). While becoming our welcomed visitor, Ny never missed a beat when it came to professional & quality wait service. That not only included our table, but another she was seeing to close by. My saw to it that our group was never in want, always had our cups topped off, and quickly got us anything we needed. I add to this also, a personal call out to her: Ny was literally the only waitress I have met in the past 4 months who actually brought my milk to the table WITHOUT having me remind her! As a displaced Michigander, living abroad ( across the pond, no less) in America’s Dairy State, that is a BIG DEAL! Ny - I tip my Cheesehead to you! You GO, Girl (ya, dare, hay)! Future travelers to Birch Run: consider making a stop at Lei’s Coney Island! Be impressed by the location, enjoy the quality repast items, and (if you are fortunate enough) be amazed at Ny’s flawless and excellent service &...
