Fife’s Restaurant&Diner — Restaurant in Birmingham

So apparently if you Google this place there's a slew of things on the menu that when you get there none of these things are what they actually serve anymore the waitress and I had a good laugh about what they don't serve and the menu I was looking at so steak and eggs and Mediterranean dish all of that not their asparagus dish not there so the thing is is if you sit there and I know it's been there for years and it's a staple for the neighborhood or the locals so if it's been around for years and they're doing quite well if you look around it's a lot that need to be repaired replaced remodeled or cleaned you may not even have to remodel but you definitely need to clean it I know some people will just eat anywhere if the food is good and they consider that a healthy greasy spoon service is with a smile and great that'll keep you coming back but the plethora of things that I saw on the menu was a disappointment to what I had my mind set on eating so I had to settle for a egg omelette that came with sauteed onions no veggies but it was supposed to be and turkey sausage flattened round two and two slices of toast the coffee is so watered down you can see straight through it in your cup again people have been going here for years and swear by it so I decided to try it that's my review I know they could care less but I won't be back. Before the sake of people not from Alabama at least go on the internet and care enough about updating with the menu actually is Not to mention I watched a lady at the counter poor either coffee or tea back into the silver container sitting on the I don't know if she made it or it came from a table I just know it wasn't a good site to see her point coffee or tea back into the decanter that sits on the counter that they got my coffee from when I saw that I just scooted my cup over to the side and did no longer want any more of...

After my last experience here I will never return. I work downtown but drive from another city. I attempted to call in my orders(while I’m coming in) so that I can grab and go. I have had several experiences of my order not being ready or even cold when I arrive. Today I called earlier than usual and arrived after the quoted time to ensure it would be ready. Before I even entered the location one or the workers took a break to personal service a gentleman that arrived after me. I went inside expecting other person to assist. I was not greeted by anyone except the line cook. Another customer came into the location after me and walked past me to stand close to the hot bar line. I waited to get the attention of another person but was completely overlooked. The customer after me was serviced as I stood to the side. I even stepped outside to see if the other worker was returning to assist. I continued to wait until the worker inside finishing assisting the other customer and completing another task. I paid for my food and left. I want to support smaller business that are staples in this area but if this is their idea of service I will not be able to participate. Even if I have to drive extra time to get to a place that treats me with a little more respect that is my only option at this point. As I sit in my car writing this message I am literally witnessing the workers come out of the location to service men(construction workers) with no prompt or hesitation. Omg so glad I have never judged a “book by its cover” so to speak. I had a little bit of a wait due to the incoming traffic of people and a lengthy line, which was moved along expeditiously to my surprise. Everything looked delicious so took me a moment to decide. I had the smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and Mac and cheese😋. Got it Togo due to a long ride ahead, then decided to sample first cause people were still coming. A few in the line had great things to say about food as well.

Anyways, nothing said was untrue. Everything was delicious 💖. Not even big on pork, but the chops were tender and gravy was great (could’ve been a little bigger) but maybe I just wanted more🤣. Mac was great (my fav food so I’m real skeptical about everybody’s) but they didn’t fail me. Staff was very courteous and lively, with a little hesitation on friendliness from 1- whom I’m told was the owner (also a server at counter). He lacked a smile and same friendliness as other server and cashier. I’m sharing some pics. Not a fancy spot, smaller building, but clean, good atmosphere, not familiar with neighborhood but business area I believe. But food was definitely worth coming here overall.
