Frothy Monkey — Restaurant in Birmingham

We have enjoyed breakfast at the Birmingham Frothy Monkey location for several months. The last two times we visited the service was not as good and last time (July 23rd) every step of the experience was a disaster. I tried sharing this feedback directly with Frothy Monkey first because we honestly want to see the establishment be successful and we loved their food and Gluten Free options previously. However, it's been 3 weeks with no reply from them... Last time we went we were told there was a 15 minute wait, no problem, in about 12 minutes we were seated. After that this is what we encountered:

-After being seated our waiter disappeared and we spotted him behind the coffee counter serving people there -After 15 minutes we had to flag down someone to place order -Another 20 minutes before our food came out -Water not filled -Food came before coffee -One coffee order never arrived -One coffee order was hot instead of iced -Had to go up to counter to correct coffee order since no body came to visit our table at all once food was brought out -20 minutes after plates were clean because all food was eaten we still had not been visited by anyone or given the check to pay -Went up to coffee counter to ask our initial waiter if we could pay -Check was wrong and had the missing coffee on it, so we requested it be removed -Waiter told us to "ask Mac" to help us and I asked "Who is Mac" -Waiter shouted at Mac to help us, but Mac disappeared into kitchen and never came to help us -We had to go back up to counter and request check be updated for second time. -Waiter had to go to another staff member to find out how to correct check -Food quality was not great compared to previous visits. Meat (barbacoa and salmon) was overcooked, avocado was not ripe, dishes were underseasoned -Overall it took an hour and half for us to eat breakfast and pay and that was only because we flagged someone down each step of the way -I have worked in the service industry and understand that sometimes it's a bad day or you are understaffed. However, we found it odd that at no point did anybody apologize or come to check on us; especially since we were...

We chose this place based on google reviews and were very disappointed, so I thought I should share our experience as honestly as possible for others deciding we’re to eat. This place is nice, but also feels like an unorganized mess. They were very busy. We waited about 15 minutes to speak to the hostess. She was very charming. She was probably the best part of the visit. We got on the waiting list, went to the coffee bar, and ordered coffee to have while we waited. We stood near the coffee pick up area and got the hear all the disfunction the employees were having. Half the employees seem overwhelmed while others were not doing much. Our table was ready after a thirty minute wait, but our coffees still were not. My wife waited at the coffee counter to pick them up while I went to the table. The two coffees were finished about 35 minutes after ordering. We finally sat at our table and ordered. Our server was kind and apologized for the wait as the kitchen was backed up. My wife ordered Avocado toast with eggs added. When it arrived it was missing three of ingredients listed on the menu. No tomatoes, sprouts, or mozzarella. She asked for those things and the served seems a little confused and went to check the menu to make sure they were included. Rather than taking the plate to fix it in the kitchen, they brought out a new plate with tomato and mozzarella on it for her to assemble at the table, she had to ask again for the sprouts, which came out on another plate. Our server joked about all the plates on our table. After my wife put her meal together, we found out that the toast wasn’t toasted at all. We didn’t mention this, we already felt weird enough about having to ask for the ingredients that were supposed to be included. We had two sides of bacon, one was great and the other seemed like it had been sitting around a while before being served to us. My meal was fine. We were in the building for about 80 minutes total. 54 dollars total before tip for us both. The building is nice. It looks nice inside. Maybe we just caught them in a very off day. I love the inside if this place. Nothing fancy, but it feels so welcoming as soon as you walk in. We were seated immediately. Everyone was so friendly! On this day, the soup of the day was a creamy banana pepper soup. It was cold out, and I really wanted some soup. It sounded disgusting, but I ordered a cup anyways and I'm SO GLAD I DID!!!! It was so AH-MAZ-ING!!! It really made my taste buds happy!! I highly recommend it if it's on the menu again! My husband ordered the French toast, I ordered the chicken and gnocchi. They are no longer serving the gnocchi, so it is served with pasta now. I have to admit, it was the gnocchi that drove me in, but a dish can never go wrong with pasta either 😋 They normally don't serve dinner during the time I was there, but I didn't know that. When the server came back with the food, she let me know. She said they normally don't serve dinner meals during that time but that she didn't know until after she put my order in, so they went ahead and made it. She was new and very kind about it. All dishes were fantastic!!! We ordered coffee to-go. I got the Turtle Latte and my husband got the Monkey 🐒 mocha. Both were great! My turtle Latte was the bomb!!!! I can't wait to try more of there housemade syrups and other flavor coffees. Before leaving, I went to the bathroom. They have 2 unisex bathrooms. Works perfectly!!! You don't have to wait in line at the "ladies" room. The restrooms were very clean and I absolutely ADORE the little details! I liked the floor tile, such a great choice! And the hand purse/coat hanger on the door.... LOVED IT! Overall, I would recommend Frothy Monkey to anyone and everyone!!! Theycalso have the cutest coffee cups for sale that say "Frothy Monkey". I wanted one but left and forgot to get it 😭 We live 1.5 hours away, but I will definitely be back!!!! Birmingham is half way for me and a lot of my friends, so I can't wait to share this place with them! It's just that kind of place! The kind of place you wanna share with people. Definitely give it a shot; you won't be disappointed! AND GET THE COFFEE CUP!!!!...
