Soooo I finally had the chance to try one of Birmingham’s hyped restaurants, EastWest. Let’s just say I wasn’t that impressed! It didn’t give what the people are saying it gives!! Now don’t get me wrong, the ambiance is EVERYTHING but the food itself… nah! I’ve definitely had better. It’s not a place I’m rushing back to but I would go back just because. & shout out to our server! She was very personable and made sure she was attentive even if it did take her a while at times.
🔹My Order🔹 ➡️West Wings (smoked, then fried, yum-yum, ssamjang hot sauce) ➡️Seared Salmon (lemongrass soy butter, grilled asparagus, rice) ➡️Lemon Drop Martini
🔹I Sampled🔹 ➡️Spring rolls (chicken, cabbage, carrots, sweet chili sauce) ➡️Chinese Duck nachos (wontons, kimchi queso, cilantro, onions, jalapeño) ➡️ Tempura Fried shrimp Rice Bowl (carrots, cilantro, scallions, yum-yum sauce, house sauce cucumber kimchi + added chicken)
I’ll start with the West Wings. This was probably the best thing I tried. They had a hint of heat to them and also a little sweet taste. I would get them again if I go back.
Next, the salmon. Now it was good but could’ve used a little more seasoning. The rice was not good at all. They could’ve left it off the plate or at least added a little razzle dazzle to it. Whew chile!
The lemon drop martini could’ve stayed where it was at. That’s all I have to say about that! Just, don’t.
The spring rolls were dry but the sauce made them a hit! The chicken on the inside should’ve been seasoned or something cause uh uh. I wasn’t impressed.
The shrimp rice bowl was decent but that chicken that was added was just as dry and unseasoned as the spring rolls. Maybe it was just a bad night! I’ll be optimistic.
The nachos were good! The chips they use are like a taste of heaven 😂
If you just had to go and order something I’d get the wings and nachos. I’m not opposed to going back and trying something different. Of course when I do, I’ll be sure to give...

1st be prepared for parking and to pay. We were fortunate and got a spot on the street in front of the restaurant!
Was greeted by a young lady at the door. Extremely pleasant. She asked if we had a reservation and we did not. However, we were seated within a few minutes.
We sat down, and Beth was the waitress. You would have thought Beth owned the place, lol! She is knowledgeable of the menu. What she likes, what others chose, taste and flavors of foid and drinks. She's one of the best waitresses I've ever encountered! 100/10 Beth!
10/10 Fried spring rolls hot, fresh, perfect texture of crunch!
10/10 Duck nachos were like fried wontons and not as hot as the spring rolls but definitely flavorful. Full of meat and other ingredients.
10/10 I had the spicy garlic noodles sub shrimp for steak. Steak was tender, and the bowl itself was plenty and flavorful.
10/10, my husband had the feature with grouper, risotto, and asparagus! Flavorful yummy plenty and a great dish. The little card was on the table. It wasn't mentioned to us. So, at first, he was going to get the burger until we saw the card. Beth allowed us to cancel, so it was a great choice!
We declined dessert because I had a taste for something else but will definitely try the bread pudding the next time because we'll be back.
10/10 all drinks Japanese cocktail, lemon drop and long Island. All strong!
Try them out I'm sure you'll like...
Read moreComing from out of town and researching the perfect spot for Valentine’s Day weekend, I knew this restaurant was the one. I made reservations at 7pm and already knew what I wanted to order. We got there 20 mins early and they were still able to sit us down promptly.
Saturday night was busy, so it was a little loud. But the ambience and decor made up for it. A beautiful mural, red and white Chinese lanterns cascaded across the ceiling, and a red candle on the table added romance.
I ordered the Osaka Spritz drink, and my boyfriend got the Silk Road. Mine was very light…couldn’t tell there was alcohol in it but it was still tasty. But I did like his drink better because it was stronger. However I didn’t come for drinks, I’m all about the food! I was so excited when I saw the menu - they have a great selection of Asian fusion food that sounded mouthwatering. We got the soft shell crab bao, short rib bao, shishito peppers, and Korean fried cauliflower. The short rib bao was delicious- nice caramelization and bold flavor. I just wish the bao was warm. Soft shell crab was good too. The lemon flaky salt on the peppers were the perfect touch. Lastly, the fried cauliflower was delicious also but I just wish it was more crunchy.
All in all, EastWest did not disappoint. I highly recommend it and would definitely go a second time if I ever find myself in...
